Hi everyone,

I just got my Mars TS1000 kit and I am an absolute novice when it comes to indoor growing.
I am struggling a bit and I am worried to make mistakes, it would be much appreciated if you could provide some guidance.

I watched the video of Mars Hydro and apparently that's how you should set it up (please see image)? I should cut the duct pipe in two, one between the fan and the carbon filter, one attached on the carbon filter with the other extremity outside of the tent?

On the video they also show a second way to do it with the inline fan inside the tent and the carbon filter outside of the tent. It seems easier to setup this way, are there any drawbacks? Also this would allow me to install the carbon filter only later once the plant starts to smell.

It's a 2.3x2.3 tent by the way.

Here is the video of Mars Hydro showing the two ways.

This is how I should set it up?

The fans are designed to pull thru........not push thru.
Put your fan outside and take suction on the filter

If you need to, you can make vertical space for growth by putting the fan, or both the fan and filter outside the tent. If you mount both outside the tent, the fan sucks the air out of the tent, and pushes it through the filter. If the filter is inside the tent, the fan sucks the tent air through the filter, and pushes it wherever your want the exhaust to go. If you don't need the extra height, the filter may last a bit longer if you put it inside the tent and suck through it. Whatever you mount inside the tent, be careful about supporting it securely. If either the filter or the fan falls on your plant(s), your grow could be buggered.

Here is an image of the various setups. I would not bother with the fan inside and filter outside option. The only reason to put the filter outside is to generate height, and other options will generate more room, and/or make for longer filter life.

Good luck with the grow, and don't hesitate to ask for more help if you need it. :pighug:

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

I think I got it now, I'll come back with more questions for sure.

One thing I always heard is that you want your tent to have small negative press (tent wall is sucking inwards) for smell and optimal temparature.

Curious to the benefit of having the fan outside the tent vs having both filter and fan inside the tent.

Also - is it overkill to have a filter inside the tent and filter outside the tent, especially for people concerned about smell?

Fan outside lessens the heat load inside.
No need for two filters

fan outside gives you more room in the tent at the expense of more noise.
You can draw air out of the tent with both the filter and the fan outside the tent for maximum room.
But, you have more junk outside the tent and more noise.
As for the negative pressure idea.
This keeps the atmosphere in the tent tight for smell ( all air going through the filter).
The only disadvantage to negative pressure on a technical level is.
You're keeping the fan under a constant load, using a microscopic amout more of electricity.
But especially, the fan is under more load, means more wear or a shorter life for the fan.

I ran the fan and filter outside of my tent for years. You will find that every square inch inside the tent is valuable space for the plant. Fans are designed to create a negative pressure inside of the tent and will have no effect on the life of the fan. Push or Pull is the same CFM. If you have a noise problem you can add a muffler to the output. I run a Hyper Fan 8 and when the temps get high it can put out some noise running full speed. Conversely when temps are low and they can idle you don't even hear them. I have my fan on a temperature controller.

Thanks.. this makes sense.. i have room to put both the filter and fan (with silencer) outside my tent..any negative drawbacks to this that I have to be aware about?

I have the AC Infinity T6 with temperature and humidity controller. Will this allow me to monitor and control the fan from outside when the temp is not optimal

You chose a good fan...The T6 is strong for that space and should work well for ya. I run a T4 in a 2x3 tent and am pleased at the automation and fits right in with my lazy growing! BTW, my filter is inside the tent ducted to the fan outside the tent. Air makeup is via a 4 inch centri fan on an inkbird thermo controller.
