No not the run off. If you are growing in soil the SOIL pH should be between 6 and 7 with optimal soil pH about 6.5. Need to let it swing about a bit because did chemicals are absorbed at dif pH. If you click on my name and look at my grow journal auto ultimate with Dutch pro nutes (in Dutch passion section,) I was having same questions last week. Ph5.8 for soil is wrong. Aim for a soil pH of 6.5.

TRIPDOG is right. Trying to maintain 6.5 is ideal for nutrient uptake. I make sure my water is as close to 6.5 as possible. When I add my organic nutes it can go up to 7.0 but when the organic compounds start breaking down in the soil it levels out again at 6.5. I don't know what to expect with chemicals though if that's what your using.

Regardless, get a water ph test and adjustment kit AND a good soil test meter. I've found that this is one of the critical measures overall. When this is right, your plants will be very happy and eat all of their food.

I'm new to growing these too and this is what I learned and put to practice with great results. Other factors are important but I think correct watering and nutrition are most important.

That's where I got confused. Hydroponic and soil methods have different pH ranges. Soil you want about 6.5 (6 - 7,). But if you are growing in hydroponics the range is 5.5 to 6.5.

right ok thanks guys, so lil break down :wiggle: when feeding nute in soil mix them around 6.5 not 5.8 and check run off and adjust as acording also get a soil meter. also when using new nute boosters should i start at full strength ?

and as my run off came out about 5.8 after being fed 6.8 plain water thats bound to be som kinda salt spike right

Yep you got it. Check run off and then adjust the next feed to compensate. ☺ always been told to try new nutes half strength but must admit I have not. Got to crash now. Like I said I'm still learning but pm me and will try and help. Got to crash out. Laters

Yep that's where I'm at. Forgot to say. Don't adjust pH more than 1.0 a week otherwise will stress plant. Ph will take a while to adjust. Is you may need several waterings before the soil pH changes.

I've not checked my run-off. I'm really concerned about what is going on around the root ball. Just my opinion. I'm trying to maintain perfectly moist soil at all times and avoid run-off. Once again though, I'm using orgainics in soil. Not DWC or Cocoa. I know that the more you are 'running' liquid through the soil, run-off is a big deal because of the recycling of liquid that occurs. Are you doing an organic grow? Using soil? If you are, I'd really try to maintain evenly moist ph perfect soil and not worry too much about the run-off. From what I can tell you really only want to soak the soil when it's time to flush out the nutrients just prior to harvest or if you are using chemicals and switching from a vegetation nute cycle to a flowering nute cycle. The nute program that I am using does not require me to flush. So I don't expect to ever water to run-off until it's time to harvest and flush.

Perfectly moist, oxygen rich, nutritious and 6.5 ph, 'light' soil around the root ball is ultimately what you want. The only thing I really screwed up out of the gate was not adding General Organics CaMg+ to the water each time I used it for watering and/or nute application.

I really don't think you'll get too much salt build up if you use organics and water only to maintain moist soil, not to run-off.
