help me save a strain

My friend has been growing pink plant or maybe its called pink bud (he said its an af) for several generations and they are becoming worse every time he grows new ones. He is not crossing with dif strains for hybrid vigor and it shows. I think that's how it works....He use also using a mh bulb for flowering because his hps blew and I think he just basically stopped caring. My question is if I cross his plant (he gave me 3 seeds) with one of mine (kush van stitch and /or betty boo) will it produce a better plant or are the genetics too messed up from inbreeding. Please help me save the pink plant. Thanks in advance for your replies.

it depends a cross out will improve vigor if your plants are after say f6 inbreed over 6 generations

you could cross out save a seed and back cross the similar ones in the hope to preserve the genetics your after then in breed to stabilise


answer is it depends and theres nothing wrong with a mh

Thanks for the help. I really like the idea of saving a seed and backcrossing I didn't think of that but I do want to try to get as close to the original pink plant as possible because his first grow was great and it was hard for me to get him to part with 3 seeds from his newest seed run. I wasn't sure if the mh was hurting or not so now I know its just a lack of diversity. Hopefully I can restore the vigor and repay him with some new good seeds.

cross it with some thing the plant is lacking in and turn out some thing better than the original

sorry if this sounds crazy but any chance maybe it just keeps getting worse because his bulbs are old since you say his hps blew and didnt mention if the mh was new or not? new bulbs vs old bulbs make a HUGE difference. usually to start to see a big difference in vigor it takes quite a few generations.

I just talked to him and yes his mh is old and now he tells me he is still using the same soil over and over without amending it. This is his 5th grow from the time he bought the seeds (f4?) so I don't think they should look as bad as they do. I took him a new bag of harvest organic potting soil (I love this stuff) and some cfls for now to try to salvage what he has. Hopefully it helps. It would be great if the seeds he gave me grow a nice healthy girl but I'm waiting for my current grow to finish before starting them. I have 3 kush van stitch 1 Russian rocketfuel all females and 1 betty boo male all on day 21 and looking beautiful. I'm not sure what I did right but that's exactly what I wanted so I can get seeds from the kvs and rrf and also gonna try to make feminized seeds with 1 kvs with homemade colloidal silver. I will post pics when they are finished and before I harvest.

Just a little update.. his plants are already showing improvement with new soil and a few cfls. Looks like I have good seeds after all. I'll be planting them in Nov sometime and I'm still planning on crossing them with something else so ill let you all know how it goes
