Nope, it's not like copying a copy. It is the same plant, genetically identical. The mother, provided she is cared for well, should continue to perform, things shouldn't fade off. I know the weed that one friend grows is as potent now as the first time I smoked it years back, and it still hits all the other boxes too. Bag appeal, smell, taste. All as I remember.
Have heard of people needing to replace the mother before, usually an infestation or something, they just replace with one of the clones.
