Sorry folks for the delay, been a bit busy. Still working during the holidays so Ill consider myself lucky at the moment. I also uploaded some of the photos I took from my first grow to further elaborate on my experience.

Im still kinda learning as I go here. Very anxious, but still learning. Not sure if this is the place to post shots of past grows but Im sure someone will chime in and set me straight, if not. Since my intro encompassed a lot, leaving much to the imagination, ill end this intro thread with some pics of my first set up, the progress and the harvest. Think you already got the smoke report in the first post. Sorry guys, Ill make better sequencing once I get the hang of this. Until then, thanks a bunch for your patience.

On with the show . . .
First set up.JPG
Inital lighting.JPG

One Apollo 400w, not sure on actual draw. 8 100w CFLS, positioned with rebar tie wire; oh yeah. 4 warm, 4 cool. All staggered. A tiny Phresh carbon filter. 6" vortex. 6 inch hard-duct all the way out to improve and maintain CFM pressure. All seams mechanically taped. Btw, the 5 mini smart pots are filled with some CK auto Northern lights. They eventually made it back to the veg cabinet as there was not enough light coverage, competing with my photos.

Eventually added a another lamp . . .
Upgrade to two.JPG

Girls are growing super fast at this point. I went and bought a couple of those CO2 in a box, mushroom grow kits and place them right above both photos. Good performance for the first two weeks. They're alright, didn't last that long though tbh. So I eventually sucked it up and bought a 20lb CO2 tank and distributor. Hassle at first dialing it in but way more precise and reliable imo.

Things starting to get tight in the tent . . .

Couple more weeks after the defol on SLH and the LST/ supercrop on the bubba.

Another shot after going to 12/12. You might have caught a glimpse of the stringy NL auto getting some LST in the corner.

A look under Bubba's canopy. You can how I bent her over and her knuckles from where I super cropped. This plant was truly amazing. Tying down branches had so much growth tension, I was retying every other day cuz the wires kept popping off. This sucker fought to reach out.

And the Super Lemon Haze, such a rich vivid green. Made me want to toss up a salad with some of them fresh leaves. Bet every bite would taste like pure grass too. LOL! Just ranting . . .

And the buds starting to take form . . .

Some more bud shots . . .

So there's some visuals to match the tale here. I know it was sloppy and theres was really no final cure cuz my impatient ass smoked damn near all if it before it had a chance to. Pretty sure a nice 2 month cure would have done wonders to the already great flavor and high these plants produced. It definitely made me realize my consumption rate was way more than my perception of an ideal amount. Sure a lot of others realized this after their first harvest too. The shape of the bubba after I cut her up looked like the body of the face sucking alien from the move "Aliens". And yes, I did stick it to my face to experience the full effect. What?

So thats it to wrap up the intro. On my way to start getting involved with the community here. Much respect and support to the AFN welcoming crew; you guys are the shyite! Thanks for the hugs and greets. Ill be around folks!

Hey there AFN'ers. Very blessed to be here.

I am a longtime follower and fan of the threads here and am happy to finally muster up the confidence to join the yap-half of this site. Hope I can keep up. Residing currently in sunny So Cal but relocating in a few months elsewhere, Ive been legally prescribed for mmj use since 2012. Recreationally using since god knows when. I get mean arthritis in my hands and experience episodes of insomina most of the year. It sucks but I'm sure it could be a lot worse so I won't cry too hard about it.

I got prescribed because I was tired of buying overpriced, b/s baggies of "wonder weed" from the douchebag down the street; all to find now Im buying overpriced b/s baggies of "wonder weed" from the local clinics that vend for medicinal use. Have to admit I was disenchanted with the whole medical endeavor after being a member of ten or so clinics that were there one day and gone the next. The more money you spent, the shadier and pricier they got. And with no true "natural" or organic standards, like Colorado, you could get stuck with just about anything they can put in a jar.

I turned to growing . . .

I injured myself from working and had been bed ridden for a few months. I decided to buy and read a few online books about growing for personal use. I was intrigued with what I found. Here I was enjoying a plant that I had only knew the surface of its true capacity. It turned into a hobby, maybe an obsession; perhaps both. Either way my hands felt a new kind of burning desire to play with soil!

I stumbled upon AFN after googling "organic grow" and lurking to see whats up to date with the latests growing processes and tech from the older published books I had already read. After reading several comments of the taste of organic buds compared to chelated nutrient buds, I had to know for myself. I read sites like ICmag, Grasscity and a few others, but AFN stood out to me with one grow journal initially. AKNorthernlights, "Salmon Water and moose poop" journal. The process involved and the end product gave me my first stiffy from nug-porn. Way to go AK! Even bought the Apollo LED's and air-pots to match. Hydro seemed way too meticulous for a novice user Imo and my budget was already set and geared for an organic grow, so I just went with it.

After I purchased My photo seeds I dropped all of the sample freebies I got in one pot to experiment with my first grow. After popping 5 seeds in Sub cools super soil recipe, 2 remained. A Bubba Kush and a Super Lemon Haze strain left standing and boy were they vigorous. I then applied different stress techniques to each plant to experiment what the effects were. The SLH received just defol. The bubba, since she appeared stronger, received LST, defol, super cropping and lollipopping. For a first timer, I thought I did pretty good.

My harvest wasn't much; about 3.5 pint Kerr jars full. Didn't have a scale cuz it was all for me anyways, oh and my wife too.

What I experienced when I first smoked organic gave rise to why I now choose to grow organically for my use. Both strains weren't too pungent on the exterior but when you broke the bud open was the real sensation. The SLH smelled like lemon heads and upon the inhale, I felt nothing. No gag, no tightening of the jaw and the exhale tasted soft, like lemon smarties. The Bubba was phenomenal. I read on Leafly to get the descriptions to match to be sure I wasn't smoking something else by mishap; Bubba delivered right on point. From the sensation down to the flavor.

So I was lucky enough to pull off my first harvest with an organic grown indica and a sativa plant. The highs were very clean and clear too. Its like I had been smoking junk for the past four years and paying high dollar for it.

I needed to try autos now so I got some Crop King seeds. Please don't hate. I got crop king seeds as I was just trying to minimize shipping costs and potential risks with long transit of product. Too many lame stories of folks getting their orders jacked in transit, limited my ability to risk what I wasn't familiar with yet. They're based out of Canada, I believe. Got my order to find they stuffed the beans in a pen. Whereas my other photo order from Canada came in its original packaging. So I sucked it up and kept the seeds; just not going to order from them anymore. Why I choose auto flowers still is for the convenience of having a consistent lighting schedule, shorter growth cycle and the yields are comparable if you can do it right. My current CK NYSD Autos are at 4 feet tall just using super soil, a 315w CMH and a wee bit of CO2. And initially these autos were rep'd as having poor genetics. I figured if I had this great of a result with sub-standard genetics, what type of grows could I accomplish with better genetics and superior grow applications?

Sucks to look back at all the money wasted up to this point but Im on track now, a bit sharper and with a big push from the AFN fam, Im confident Ill only improve with time. I can appreciate the way the site has stayed up on the tech and the earnestness of the staff and the pros activity in here is beyond inspiring. The community support is great here too.

So thats my story to date. I am really excited to be here finally and Id like to contribute to the cause in any way I can, and of course, learn to score myself a better and tastier harvest in the process. Im eager and rippin' ready! Happy Holidays AFN!:toke:

I've heard that story before. Growing your own is the best! You know exactly what your smoking...
I agree with @Bailey on the early harvest, the hardest part of growing is being patient. :smoking: Do you have a scope or loop to look at trichomes?
To solve your bean order worries check out Mephisto, they are vendors here, ship stateside and have super fast shipping of some awesome genetics.

Good luck with your autos! It's addicting...

@Bailey, Thanks for the response! Yup, I completely agree. I totally harvested way too early. The delicious smells and the allure of the glistening trichromes were subliminally telling me to harvest, it felt like. But now I understand the ratio of an efficient gram-per-watt output, so I definitely have a bench mark to reference from here on out.

Thanks for inviting me to check your grows Bailey! Im well on my way . . .:growing::cool1:

Thanks for the input @iampepe! First time grow anxiousness got the best of me it would seem. Im finding that a little patience can go a long way with this plant in terms of feeding and watering as well. Very true about the addiction part. So when someone jests that I might find watching grass grow entertaining. I can gladly reply, "How did you know?" Haha!

So far Ive expensed a massive reading magnifying glass (no good); Ill use it as a sun lighter for nature hikes instead, cuz I hate butane. Also got a mini 60-100X illuminated microscope, which also sucked. I remember trying to hold the damn thing still but simple breathing threw the focus off. Shoulda got a jewelers loop. So now I have a 100-300X HD usb digital magnifying camera, that comes with its own stand OR you can simply take the camera from the stand and manually shoot wherever. Pictures come out clear; the software even has a tint feature to add a little color to the photos ambiance. So Im using this for my current grow. I am still interested in getting a jewelers loop for "at a glance" moments where I don't have time to set up the laptop. If you know a good deal, show me the way Pepe! I'm on it.

Funny you mention Mephisto. I just placed my first order with them last Thursday, as an early x-mas present. I ordered from the website. I got with Bill, chose a method of payment; no reply since. Probably a good thing considering I saw they opened up a promo on AFN about the BOGO deal and the free sweater with orders in excess of 250 euros. I would like to add to my order to total 250 so I can get the deal. I'm from the US; I pay in U.S. currency. From what Ive gathered on Meph's website, they're out of Spain. It seems they prefer euros or bitcoin, as the last pmt option (PayPal/CreditCard) was offered and seemed like it would be a hassle for them to process. Unfortunately this is the only way I can buy. If I'm in the blind somewhere, please chime in as I'd really appreciate the help if Im missing submitting something on my end. Cheers brother.

LOL Growing grass is fun!!
I use a 60-100x illuminated scope. probably the same as yours. I clip a very small piece of the flower off, place it on a piece of white paper and study it on a solid surface. I thought about getting one of those USB scopes. Can you record video with it?
As far as mephisto what I did was chose paypal and pay with euros using it, it converts for ya. They do their breeding in Spain and ship from there, if you are in the states thou your beans will ship from within, nice and safely. No customs :smoking:

Peace
