toatally agree with what your saying about the tiger stripeing its just a other layer left on the seed after harvest and iv gotten seed where its coming off or off completely still great seeds i think there somthing else going on here with all the germ failures has anyone tried GA3 growth hormones its suppose to be a good trick for stuborn/ old seeds :pass:
I've got some gibberilic acid and I figured that was going to be my last ditch attempt for my final seeds if I don't get three to come up. I've used it in the past with some success at about 120 parts per million in a glass of water.

Actually my Solo Cup grow is so small I could probably spray it with some gibberilic acid, the only problem is you never know exactly what the results are. Sometimes a plant that's already somewhat mature will just stretch like a son of a b**** and get real funky buds.

Maria's Heavyweight - Strawberry Cake & Jackpot - Day 7

Actually, I'm not sure what day it is, because I wasn't home when most of them popped up.
But I figure that it should be about day 7, as that is right for the oldest.
The Strawberries came up first, so day 7 is about right.
But the Jackpots came up later, and are obviously smaller, but still calling them day 7.

Strawberry Cake (Photo)

Shooting 4 from 4 here, they are all up!
One is obviously a bit smaller, but the larger two are now just putting out their 2nd set of true leaves.

Two pots, one is 1.0 L, the other is 0.8 L.

Jackpot (Auto)

Shooting 3 from 4 here, just one didn't show.
I'm glad, because when I left the house a week ago, they had only cracked, and none popped yet.
They are smaller than the Strawberries, probably about day 4 or so.
But to keep things easy, I'm calling them all day 7.

Two pots, one is 1.0 L, the other is 0.8 L.

Germination situation:

So, as for the discussion about germination for these Heavyweight seeds.
My method is running at 87.5%, namely 7 out of 8, total.
That is: soak in water plus a bit of H2O2 for 24 hrs.
Then straight into ordinary potting mix + perlite.
Ignore for 7 days, and see what happens...

Love and hugs,
MJS
Are you using food grade h202? What quantity if you don't mind? I have some I think it's 30% h202 on hand.

Where I'm growing

It was from a drug store, so I guess it's medical grade.
Each ml contains 30mg H2O2, so that's 3%.
I soak in shot glasses, half full, so about 10 mL.
And give each shot a squirt, maybe 5 "drops".

To be honest, I did think that the beans were not fully mature.
They weren't particularly dark. Still, I chose the darkest.
So I guess at 87.5% they are pretty much just fine.

Oh, forget to mention: germination temps about 12C-18C.
Outside has been 8C-13C, and they are near the open window.
Not at all the recommended 20C-25C for germination.

Day 11, second check-in

Iv only heard of using it to restore the.growth hormone lost in old seeds never heard of it as a folier spay what would be the thinking in using it that maybe to give it a boost in veg like superthrive or simular products[emoji16]

I did a lot of twisting and torturing of a plant one time, building main lines and I went a little bit too long and missed the stretch. Well I guess I'm mostly missed the stretch, anyway I painted just the growing tips of the plant with gibberellic acid at about a hundred and 20 parts per million. It ended up growing about 4 feet tall with lots of strange skinny buds sort of like foxtails, they smoked the same as regular.

In my area some people will make kind of a paste with it and put it on the growing tips of their trees and then they'll have trees it'll shoot up like crazy in a couple years. Then the grape Growers do something with it I'm not sure exactly?

Attempting to get some luck with 2 more beans . Same method paper towel in Ziploc container. Also popped a crazy glue I i won in a giveaway. All 3 beans have cracked. one turbo bud has been planted one fifth of an inch taproot. Crazy glue tap was about half an inch. The two turbo bud autos are on the left . Crazy glue on the right.

It’s day 8 today.
Had a slow start after germinating and lost two of the seeds. Just didn’t seem to want to grow and then went all ick and brown. Makes me question my germ technique I’ve used forever... ugh but we are on our way finally and the girls seem to be doing ok for now. Just ph’d water for now and crosses fingers for some decent healthy plants soon.

Now that I think of it I think there was a write-up on this site comparing gibberellic acid and a another growth hormone. I believe that's where I got the idea of using it and a little bit of the how to.

@jingo & @stoney T --
In Clarke's classic Marijuana Botany there is a bit about gibberillic acid.
IIRC, some use it to create "sports", kind of controlled mutant plants.
(Though I may be confusing it for some other hormone...)
Breeders use it on a lot of seeds, and while many will just be useless mutants,
maybe some small % will become kind of super plants.
Though I'm not sure whether or not that continues in future generations.
