jingo thats so disappointing that pal im pretty sure they must of been immature as you said but at least you leaving feeback even if negative thats how problems get fixed but i can tell your pissed
Well I'm not so much pissed as I am disappointed. It seems like so many of the tests that I've done have had problems, that I was really looking forward to this one going off just right. I hate to say it but this may very well be my last test on the site.

Well heck that is the whole idea behind being a testor - volunteer to test products knowing full well that they may be far from perfect! I just got done paying $150.00 for 10 seeds 9 of which failed to germinate and a 50/50 chance the last one would be male! It happens.

I also take exception to the idea of soaking fresh seed in a glass of water. Seeds need air from the moment they open and I think people are drowning them - just my opinion.

I had 100% germination in rockwool cubes of 4 Monster Profit and there is no stripping on most of the seed. It looks like one has a little stripe. They mostly look like the ones everybody is calling immature?

Woof!! Heavyweight fruit punch...So far 4 out 5 no bueno-5th I'm giving one more day to see if she wants to continue going on..remaining FP auto seeds left-4.....3 look immature-4th has an inkling of stripes....dropped striped and another into water---same process I have used for all my seeds---dropped 1 HBD from MA...to accompany germ...for comparison

@jingo -- I'd always pick the darker seeds over the lighter (greenish) seeds any day.
However, different strains differ a lot, too.
I used to think that the tiger stripes were more mature.
But, some strains have stripes, some don't.
And often, the stripes aren't the seed shell itself.
When I was breeding, I'd hold a handful (50-100) seeds in the palms of my hands, and rub them.
The tiger striping is a residue in the calyx, I think.
And rubbing them takes the stripes off.
So, maybe some seed banks leave them on, and some take them off.
So I'd only go by dark color now, relative to seeds of the same strain.
That's in my experience, your mileage may differ....

Hey, thanks for that [emoji106][emoji16][emoji41]

I'll be home soon, and will then be able to update on germination rates.
When I left, 3/4 photo Strawberries were ok,
and the 4 auto Jackpot had cracked by not above ground.
They were left with my partner.
Meaning: their fate is truly in the hands of Ganga devi ... {PRAYS}

toatally agree with what your saying about the tiger stripeing its just a other layer left on the seed after harvest and iv gotten seed where its coming off or off completely still great seeds i think there somthing else going on here with all the germ failures has anyone tried GA3 growth hormones its suppose to be a good trick for stuborn/ old seeds :pass:

Maria's Heavyweight - Strawberry Cake & Jackpot - Day 7

Actually, I'm not sure what day it is, because I wasn't home when most of them popped up.
But I figure that it should be about day 7, as that is right for the oldest.
The Strawberries came up first, so day 7 is about right.
But the Jackpots came up later, and are obviously smaller, but still calling them day 7.

Strawberry Cake (Photo)

Shooting 4 from 4 here, they are all up!
One is obviously a bit smaller, but the larger two are now just putting out their 2nd set of true leaves.

Two pots, one is 1.0 L, the other is 0.8 L.

Jackpot (Auto)

Shooting 3 from 4 here, just one didn't show.
I'm glad, because when I left the house a week ago, they had only cracked, and none popped yet.
They are smaller than the Strawberries, probably about day 4 or so.
But to keep things easy, I'm calling them all day 7.

Two pots, one is 1.0 L, the other is 0.8 L.

Germination situation:

So, as for the discussion about germination for these Heavyweight seeds.
My method is running at 87.5%, namely 7 out of 8, total.
That is: soak in water plus a bit of H2O2 for 24 hrs.
Then straight into ordinary potting mix + perlite.
Ignore for 7 days, and see what happens...

Love and hugs,
MJS
