I ordered this keep it simple water only soil which claims to have enough nutrients to feed a plant for up to 6 months. For anyone who's ever used this water only soil, or any water only soil from amy brand, tell me what has your experience been like?

I used a water only soil to great results. I listen to Tad Hussey's podcast (he is the guy behind KIS soil) and I am not sure if there is anyone pushing as hard on the organic soil growing game. That should be some great soil. Keep us poster on the results :toke:

With water only, you didn't have to add any extra nutrients or top dress any dry are dents you just water from seedling to harvest and thats it?

Yep! Just good clean water. Honestly I used city water I left out for about 24 hours, didn't ph test or anything, and still came out with a decent harvest.

Sounds like you made my life alot easier. How much did you yield?

It only yielded about an half ounce, but that was operator error haha. I went on vacation and didn't water it for about a week. Then just chopped before it could recover.

I haven’t used a bagged water only soil because it’s too expensive to ship enough BUT I have used water only soils that I’ve built from KIS and BuildASoil and I love them. I’ve only grown a few plants (autos) with truly nothing but water but I had pretty good success. I felt like the yields were not much less than I had gotten in the past with some bottled nutes and soil. I’m sure I could probably increase yield by growing in coco with heavy salt based feedings and really ‘pushing’ my plants but I can’t stand the way that flower tastes; and, in my own personal opinion, growing anything with chemicals is wrong. What I do now to ‘push’ my plants is I use my water only soil and I feed AACT at least once a week, including foliar feeding, and every watering includes at least some sort of biological supplement - Recharge, Mammoth P, OG Biowar, Rootwise, etc. In addition feed them enzymes and I’ll top-dress periodically with things like malted barley or a even a “Build A Bloom” nutrient pack from Build A Soil, as I go to flower. Are these necessary? No. But it does make my plants happier and it makes my soil healthier. I get more vigorous growth and increased frost and every cycle my soil gets better and better. I keep worms in my soil and as long as they’re fat and happy my plants seem to be as well. I would never go back to salt nutes. My regimen is SO much easier than all the worrying about ph and monitoring everything. If I didn’t have time to add anything but water for a week or two I wouldn’t worry a bit because my soil is so biologically active. Again, I do it because I can and I want to - not because I need to.

These types of soil (once built) are a virtually trouble free way of growing and produce the best tasting, healthiest flower out there. If yield is your only concern, stick with salt. If you want to produce the best flower you possibly can in perfectly acceptable quantities, organic is the way to go. I think you’ll love it! I would recommend you use some biological supplements though, in addition to water - at least Recharge and Mammoth P. Both are reasonably priced and will pay big dividends, in my experience. Just remember.... organic growing is ALL about soil biology. If you don’t have adequate biology, all the nutrients in the soil will be unavailable to your plants! The relationship between soil and soil biology is paramount for any organic grower, if you want to make the most of your genetics.

Hope this helps and you love that soil! KIS is amazing but I use Build A Soil more often because the shipping rates to me are less expensive. If they were the same or similar, I would order more from KIS. Either one is great!

:greenthumb:Good info DTOM! I just got my KIS Nute Pack on Friday, soil mixing this week - :woohoo1:

technically that's the deal, provided you follow instructions on pot size... also look into their tips for better harvest, supplements that help it all come together better and yield more with minimal inputs... They suggest inoculant/tea to support and boost the soil herd, critical for top performance in organics; Si, kelp, humic-fulvic are major players in keeping nutes available, uptake/metabolism.... And a little PK boosting during bloom will make the buds even fatter, better quality. You can top dress with something, or water-in... Last year I tried Roots Organic Terp Tea Bloom, very fine powder so it waters in easily, and it performed well!
So, if you want to put a little more effort and goods into the "water only" gig, it pays dividends! PK can get depleted later in the grow, at the time when demand is highest so a bit of occasional boosting can make more and better product...

Waira - That's awesome! You're going to love it! I use rice hulls for 1/3 of my aeration for the silica, IF you have access to any. I've been finding that my soil gets better and better with each round, as it 'matures. I've been using the Build a Soil nutrient pack to freshen up the soil between rounds. I let it cure for a few weeks or more between runs with the additional nutrition in there; and then its used for another run. I would also advise innoculating your soil with beneficial nematodes (I use a combo of all 3 (Hb, Sf & Sc types) shortly after you mix your soil. This has really helped me to keep my soil free of pests. Recently I also started adding some predator mites and rove beetles to curing soils. a small handful of worms in each final pot has really proven to be a help as well. It's SO much nicer growing naturally and I haven't had any nutrition or pH issues with my plants since I went fully organic. Easiest growing EVER. All the work is in that soil building and then it's just fun! Enjoy mate!

Great seeing you again, brother!

This is Tad, figured I'd chime in. I would like to put a caveat on the "Water Only" claim. It does require that you use a large enough container, we recommend a 7 gal as a minimum for a full cycle plant. You can't grow like you might have in hydro with a 1 gal or a 3 gal pot and make it with just water.

Other than that, the best advice I can give is keep the soil evenly moist. That keeps the microbes happy and cycling nutrients for your plant!

Best of luck with your grow and please post your thoughts and results!
