well if your talking about freexing temps and the bin is in that cold temps.its not going to compost at all. especially if its frozen. but if you can raise the temp a bit to maybe 60F or so it'll slowly cold compost over the course assuming the levels of things are in check. but its essentially an airy compost pile if there is a small touch of life present to kick it off and the temps aren't too cold but its possible but larger pieces will take some time to decompose certainly but if mix simply by hand over the winter kept warm that could potentially be ready in time.but I would add stuffds to it unless its got stuff left in it. if not?hit it witrh a cpl pound of stuffs of this n that in the middle of the cooking cycle and then inoculate it too with something simple n cheap. and there it is. no biggie just a slightly different path but the same result i think.

lol I should have specified.. The bin of soil is in my basement, so even during the winter it stays above 50F, or roughly 8-10C.. In the area that I like to keep it, it actually stays a little warmer.. The only issue with the basement, especially there is the dryness.. It's common for the RH to be in the mid to low 30's there, so I'd have to add moisture to the soil every week or so to maintain that nice, earthly appearance and smell.. I was sorta hoping that throwing all of my leafy trim and veggie scraps in there as well as some myco inoculations every so often might super-charge the soil and possibly make a bit of a super-soil of my own.. The only thing I added other than what I've previously mentioned was about a half cup of dolomite lime and a half cup of bat guano and a couple scoops of Great White each time I throw more soil in there.. It's probably close to what you have in your blue bin above, if I am seeing the dimensions properly (roughly 30"x22"x20", or near 1m x 0.6m x 0.55m-ish).. Not really good at gauging soil gallon equivalents as I realized a 5gal nursery pot is probably only what, 3.5gal-ish liquid measure??

oh ok, was not sure LMAO! but if your in a cooler climate you'll essentially putting it in a lightly suspended or slower form of existence really. which is ok. but if the depleted soil was pretty depleted and drained of stuffs, that amount sounds ok,just imho I would avoid too many/much guanos is all. lime was a good call with some neem cake if ya got it and really just toss a few scoops of the recipes in there and it'll blend and form a nice layer of cooling compost ing and turn that into the soil each few week period once its settled after each mixing which takes about 2 weeks roughly.maybe 3.

yeah in winter,it just rips the moisture out of the air LOL! hard to beat that earthy lusciously luscious life smell eh?! lol and a 5 gallon nursery pot really depends on maker and so on. but true gallons probably closer to a smaller 4 gallon or so would be my guess. because the [HASHTAG]#5[/HASHTAG] ture 3 gallons always run typically a little larger for a lip and topping edge for top coating and watering. so a 1/2 inch once compacted and watered in ,will tell you if you did it right which is a full 3 or 4 or 5 gallons usually. so they run large counting the lip too.4 to 4.3 true gallon would be my best guess.

Nurseries:
Use as soil drench in porous media or mix into potting soil
1 pound treats approximately:
- 3,500 sq. ft. of nursery flats
- 450 x 4" containers
- 220 x 1 gallon containers
- 95 x 2 gallon containers
Mix with water to effectively deliver the above application rate of powder per container (ie: 1g/4" container, 2g/1 gallon container, 4.7g/2 gallon container)

I just went back through and re-read this not-as-high as the last time and saw this.. Good info to know, but daaaaaaaamn!! 1lbs covers quite a bit!!!!!!! If I did my calculations correctly, that's enough for almost 40, 5gal nursery pots!!!!! To me, that's worth the money if the product is that good!!!

I also realized what you mentioned about the guanos, and I seem to remember reading in one of your threads about the issue w/ N tox with some guanos.. Hopefully I didn't add too much, but I guess we'll find out!!! lol I may just mix a little extra base soil in there to thin it out..

I bought cloning gel and for the first time ever, I'm going to attempt to clone the GDP I have growing, but I think if I can successfully get a couple good clones, I may try testing the soil that I've made with 100%, 65% w/ 25% base and 10% castings, and then one with 50%, 40% base and 10% castings w/ a possible top dress of more castings at the end of veg.. If this soil is good, then I'll be pretty happy since I have so much.. I won't need to make any more super soil until late winter, early spring when the thaw begins.. I'll have to make some anyway for the veggie garden, but if I can cut the batch down, that helps for storage..

hellz yeah man, sounds like a plan if ya ask me bro :) lemme know if ya need anything. dude, the GDP seeds are STUPID expensive. I was supposed to have seeds done and re gifted back to me but that never panned out. I would have done at least one or two of them by now.so I lost my three or four strains of GDP's that I had. SHITTY! oh well though, sow the cookie rolls sometimes

So yeah, the GDP seeds were gifted to me by one of my best friends.. Unfortunately, he passed away a little over 2yrs ago, so I decided to grow them to tribute to him.. I tried the seed sexing experiment, and I believe I saw the first pre-flower on the larger plant, so I hate to put the cart before the horse but I think there is some truth to the seed sexing.. Anyway, he gave me 9 seeds.. I dropped one on a carpet and no-kidding, spent almost 2hrs looking for it, as if I had let my friend down, but he and his father had bred this specific seed over 4 or 5 generations of strain hunting and I can see why!!! The plant hasn't grown vertical at all!!!!! It is literally branching out in all directions, equally, and even after a little over 5 or 6 weeks, is already starting to STINK!!! The bud was always top-shelf when they grew it, so I had that feeling that if I landed a female seed, I was going to want to pull a couple clones off of it.. Now, I just need to figure out which branches are worthy of clone-status!!!!!! What's also odd, is the other seed that I popped, naturally grew into 2 main colas.. I'll get a picture in a bit so you can see.. I feel like they're both female.. What I'm not entirely sure of though, is if they feminized the seeds, which would be fantastic!!!!

If you're ever near Boston, let me know and I'll send you home with a cutting or 2!!!!!!!!! :pass:

yeah I'd say bro,DAMN! sounds fantastic! if ya ever get seeds man, lemme know yo. gimme a Holler LOL! yeah I have read anyways that the sexing it at best if tried and really gotten ionto about 70% you get fems with good stock to pick from. but Im sure sometimes that could be beaten with smaller runs and things looked at with an even more fine toothed comb LOL! nice deal man. love to see how they progress.

Lemme get scientific for a second......

I postulate that with the seed sexing, the most mature seeds (nice and dark brown, striations, distinct volcano feature), would more than likely be female, as they are the cornerstone of the species.. Males can't go hermi, as far as I know, but females can.. I feel as seeds mature, your chances of getting a female are logarithmically increased, hence when people look and see a sort-of volcano shape at the seed base, they instantly think, "oh yeah, definitely gonna be female.." I'm gonna try it with bag seed that I have.. I just need the space, so when I take down the WCOG, I'm gonna drop 4 seeds w/ distinct volcano features and all of the fully matured characteristics, and the others, I will liberally use the volcano feature and mark them, but the ones that are absent the volcano feature will be grow in equal proportions to see if I can pin down a factor.. There HAS to be a way to identify, I just don't think the science or scientists have caught up yet!!!

:deadhorse:

oh I dont disagree at all. I wouldn't be suprised if you could take it too maybe 80+ or 90% with kick ass stock to choose from and same variables and conditions for the most part too. That'd be killer man. lemme know how you get on

Wow dude, I think I just found my local hang out on these forums..... You've got beautiful buds, pretty plants, and monstrous blankets of mycellium on your cooking soil. This page looks to be right up my alley! I think it goes without saying, but you are absolutely crushing the TLO game...

Pulling up a chair for this one. Better late than never I guess! Cant wait to see what the future brings!
