Hey all, my first extremely minimal effort grow is nearing harvest and I started a couple new seeds about 2 weeks ago. Thought I might as well start a journal in case anyone is interested.

First some background on the initial grow. I basically wanted to see what I could get out of some autos with very little effort put into them. The plan was to start inside and move to our greenhouse at about flowering time to let nature do the work for me. The inside phase consisted of one overhead "daylight" CFL at a measly 23 watts, and then moved to a fluorescent fixture with a 6500K and a 3100K after re-potting at 3 weeks. This one is going to be very similar with a couple of tweaks, so I'll just document what I'm doing now.

Okey dokey, here goes. Seeds are from ILGM, and I haven't seen them mentioned on here so I'm just using their acronym for now. I'll be happy to give the full name if anyone cares to know it. The dude behind the seeds is ultra cool and more than generous with pricing and freebies/specials. His stealth packaging is genius and so far I'm at 100% germination and I cannot find any negative reviews about this guy's operation.

I'm two weeks in so far and this is what I've documented. Keep in mind I'm not using any kind of box or tent, just lights in a spare bedroom for the veg phase.

3-14-15
One Northern Lights and one Super Skunk seed in water to germinate

3-15-15
Moved seeds to starter pots with Miracle Grow soil (this was the recommendation of the seed supplier)
Light cycle 18/6 with only overhead "daylight" CFL at 23 watts, approx 1" from top of pots

3-18-15
Both seeds sprouted through the soil

3-28-15
Multiple small leaves on both
Added 2x 100w 6500K CFL on both sides in clamp light reflector

I decided to add the extra side lights to hopefully get more growth during veg. They're so darn bright they make my original overhead light look stupid, lol We'll see how it goes. During my first grow my overhead light was way too far from the plants and they stretched so tall they were falling over. I had to prop them up and put a fan on them, but they strengthened up. I started these with the light much closer and a fan from day 1 and it seems to be doing good things.

Okay, here's some pics. Remember, no box, no tent. Just lights in a room. To reiterate I wanted to keep this as low effort as possible for me, so I didn't want to mess with a box or tent. Also I have no reason for stealth with no kids or visitors to my home.

That's it for now, I'll follow up when I change anything or something significant happens. I'd love to hear thoughts and opinions if you care to share.

Repotted both into ~3gal pots with Green Lite soil. No nutes yet.

A bit of yellowing on a couple leaves. The starter pots were definitely drying out quickly so I'm hoping to see more green in the next day or so.

Most definitely. I had a couple fans on these this round and a hard time keeping them wet enough in the starter pots. I expect them to grow like mad now thy they're in the bigger pots.

I think I'll skip the starter pots next time and just go with the big ones from the start.

yes strate into the big pots. autos dont like to be transplanted, ive made a mistake of using a 1 gallon pot and now the roots av poked through the drain holes and i was going to transplant and someone on here said to not transplant... :Sharing One:

That seems to be the consensus here. The recommendation from my seed provider was to use small pots then repot later. My first two handled it just fine, but they also didn't have fans on them so they stayed wet enough to keep them happy.

Always learning!

How you doing? I repotted a couple in the beginning of this grow I'm on. It stunted them some I think. I'm new to autos as well but I think if you do it early enough it doesn't hurt em too too bad

The NL and SS are much happier in their new pots, they're getting plenty of water and perking up nicely. I expect them to be just fine in a week or so.

Honestly my first two (LowRyder and White Widow) seemed to take the repotting very well. My LowRyder is now about 30" tall (crazy) with FAT colas. The White Widow seems a bit small, but I moved it out into my greenhouse a week before the WW, so that might have had something to do with it.

I think I'm going to keep these two indoors a little longer, maybe a couple extra weeks inside with nutes before moving them out to the greenhouse.

Lots of trial and error (unfortunately) happening.

My girlfriend has been in the nursery business for many, many years and says starting in small pots is the way to go for most plants. But maybe autos are a bit more picky? I'm just afraid of over-watering a tiny seedling in a 3 gallon pot. :)

Well I realized my CFLs were totally overpowering the T12 bulbs overhead so I killed the T12s and moved the CFLs up top. 2 bulbs per plant at equivalent of 100w each. Definitely more light than the T12s were going to supply.
