Sounds like you're doing everything right, getting the homework done first!
If i could do it all again, my advice would be don't buy cheap stuff if you know this is going to be your hobby for the forseeable future. I love a bargain, but have come to appreciate how much money i would have saved over 4 years if i had bought decent equipment (mainly fans and lights)
ooh - and read the stickies in the new growers forums - thats about all you need really - and some sensible advice from some AFN members!
