Live Stoners Greetings and Salutations, AFN

Tried a different approach to get pic's to post, sorry for the repeat of text but should make a bit more sense with pic's....
A little more about my grow methods – I do single plant auto grows, 4 gallon hydro ebb n’gro containers flooding every two hours, General Hydroponics’ expert recirculating nutrient regimen (with personal tweaks), 2”3” X 2’3” tent, 325W (actual / consumed), 325CFM centrifugal through Phresh carbon filters. As to yield expectations, my auto experience has trained me to be minimally pleased with 6oz, satisfied to smiling with 8oz, and hopeful for 11-12 oz per auto grow. With all that said, frankly, I've been a bit perplexed with Dutch Passion auto strains so far. I'd seen kind words spoken about their strains, so last year I ordered a batch of Dutch Passion auto's - Blackberry Kush, Cinderella-Jack, Auto-Mazar and Blue Auto-Mazar.

The first strain I dropped was the Blackberry Kush, looking to the Blueberry influence for pain relief for the wife's medical needs. I don't recall ever seeing seeds this tiny. I know this doesn't really reflect on viability, the colors were good / no white / premature seeds, just TINY. The first bean failed to germinate, the second one popped in three days.

Now, in my intro I mentioned one of the things I'd like to chase on AFN - do plants stretch more effectively under HID than LED lighting? Ever since I started growing under LED, I've noticed none of my auto's would stretch. It took awhile, but I think I see the pattern unfolding as I complete more grows. Ennyways, I decided to try the Blackberry Kush in my original 250W HID tent which has been so successful on past grows. True to suspicion, the plant stretched to 15" in fourteen days from transplant to HID. Encouraging. So I switched to HID / HPS Bloom, started LST, and watched the plant progress. I was REALLY excited as it matured. The entire plant's calyxes began to display a beautiful purple hue, better than any blueberry photoperiod I've ever grown. The plant pic is in my avatar, Sexy sexy sexy:

Unfortunately, as the plant matured, the calyx-es opened. I've seen this before in many sativa dominant strains, and sometimes (not always) it's hurt yield. This time, it hurt. A LOT. When harvested and cured, the buds dried way too fast (two days!!!), were see-through wispy, and lost all aroma, never to return even after a month's cure. The high was great, but the taste degraded to remind me of Mexican brick. Final yield, 104g / 3.7oz.

Looking past the disappointment, this plant was the most beautiful I've grown. So I’m hoping someone can show me this was a runt or a poor pheno:

Soooo, after the Blackberry Kush, I decided to try the Cinderella-99 / Jack Herer cross. The genetics for this strain had me drooling; C-99 has been a perennial favorite of mine since forever. I LOVE the trippy, psychedelic head high, right up there with G-13. And Jack Herer? can't get any better than that for relaxation / pain relief. So I was hopeful the C99 influence would keep the Jack influence "off the couch"

This one went under my new Mars Pro Cree-128 LED (325W actual, kill-a-watt verified).
Back to the stretch theory, NONE under the LED. The plant stayed quite compact, and even with some aggressive LST to try to open it up, it never spread out. But yield was good, an even 96g/7oz in 78 days. Smoke quality and taste, all excellent. This one was a winner.
Only other observation, I've never seen a plant with more dense / heavy buds by volume. 7oz cured took up about 4-5oz volume in my cure containers. If only some of this could have gone to the Blackberry Kush!!

But CJ was a pretty girl -

In the meantime I’ve launched into a third strain from Dutch Passion; Blue Auto Mazar. I’ve never seen a more sativa dominant strain, it looks like a perfect little Christmas tree. And even after bending her over and tying her up (lots of gurls like that ), the side branches are not growing, nothing is catching up. I’m afraid it’s going to be a very poor yielder as well. At 40 days in it’s healthy and pretty as she can be. She’s just not filling out, no stretch or spread. Is this my LED no-stretch theory, or other bad result?

Sooooo, that’s my experience so far with Dutch Passion. I have to decide if my yield problems have been pheno dependent, runts, or are true to the strains of this breeder. Keeping an open mind and hoping, so I’ll welcome any info on conflicting results from other growers.

By the way, I don’t do traditional grow threads. It’s been my experience that the most meaningful way to do this is to document a grow while completing it, then publish the results all at once. So if someone wants to see my results, the are all in one place and they don’t have to wade through 20 pages of posts to get the particulars. I’ve got some winners to share, and a couple of losers to scare you away from. I’ll be launching into that after my vacation in mid March. In the meantime, I’ll be looking for all your results.

Later, Boyz ‘n Girls!

OK, finished with editing - I'm not sure what I was doing works sometimes, doesn't others, but I figured a different way that seems to work every time. I like to host my pic's on a 3rd party site rather than uploading off my PC; I'm told the pic metadata is eliminated in this fashion, including location, etc. We'll see. Going to respond to your last post now; thanks.

Ahh!! Grown some of the only DP auto strains i havent yet!! Only one i have grown from your done list so far is the Cinderella Jack, and i grew mine outdoors in limited light.

I am staggered to hear of immature seeds from Dp!! I have had tremendous germ ratings from DP strains.....I have had 100% germination across a dozen or more DP strains grown, with the exception of a single Cindy Jack seed.

I have a question..how is your light distance using the LEDs? That could potentially be limiting stretch? I know there is lots of guys around here that use LED and grow monster autos. How are temps under the LED's?

Okay so yields and quality....the auto ultimate is a monster of an auto. I have had great bud off outdoor autos, but a few guys have reported fluffy bud. Daiquiri Lime is a great strain, but it seems like you are mostly after Indica dominant effects? The Auto night queen....not huge yields, but the quality is exceptional. I have one growing right now and she is a beauty! Glueberry OG would be a good choice. Large heavy yielders with excellent toke.

Dp's Blueberry - So far i have found the effect of the blueberry top of the list for effect for my 24/7 chronic pain (ruptured discs in upper neck). I mostly grow outside and have had excellent success with the blueberry. Here is a pic of the last one i did.

Here is an autoultimate i grew outdoors

And a Daiquiri Lime

Thanx for the follow up, GS. Continuing our discussion now that I've got my pic hosting issues under control.
I'm not sure the Blackberry Kush seed WAS immature. It had great color, dark with specks, not unlike any other seed. It was just TINY. But not white & shriveled like a true preemie seed that wasn't given time to mature. So I'm attributing the lack of germination of one seed to growers' luck. Will see.
Cinderella Jack was a winner. I'd like to have seen more stretch, I think it would have greatly helped yield, but 196g / 7 oz is acceptable.
To answer your questions, I start LED height about 24" and drop to 18" over the first week. Once stretch has finished (more old days than now) I may lower it to 14", even 12" as long as I'm not getting any bleaching on new growth. But good point, I think next grow I may start at 30" and lower to 24". There is something to be said about strong direct light contributing to dense, compact growth. Which is mos'def' what I'm seeing. The plants are way healthy, just very dense and compact.
Temp's are well under control, lights-out lows of 60F and end - of - cycle lights on highs in upper 70's. Reservoir temps consistent in upper 60's F.
Fluffy bud - yeah, the Blackberry Kush definitely suffered from that. The only other time I experienced that was with a Kalashnikova Auto from GreenHouse Seeds. It was more open-calyx than fluffy though, and yield was great. So I'm hoping my Blackberry Kush problem was a pheno issue with a not-quite-stable-yet new hybrid? She WAS a beauty.
So if anyone reading this has better experience with Blackberry Kush, please chime in. I'm trying hard to want to re-grow that one.
Big agreement with Blueberry for pain. I can't remember whose, but I did a photoperiod several years ago that was excellent for pain, it just didn't produce worth keeping (the wife could smoke it faster than I could grow it :) )
Yeah, the wife leans toward indica dominant strains but myself, I'm a sativa connoisseur way back to Colombian Gold days (or was it Daze???? heh heh).
Since you need good pain strains, I can highly recommend Humboldt Seeds ChemDawg photoperiod, but I haven't found an even close to comparable Auto version of that. I did try an Auto Seeds' Chemdog Auto - yield was low, buds were loose, no frost, and a very unremarkable taste - NOTHING like the photo parental version.
I hear Humboldt has also done a rework tagged EmDog, which is a backcross of ChemDawg with OG Kush if I recall correctly. But high on the pain relief scale as well.

I appreciate the pic's, those have my mouth watering for the old days when I was outdoors. Different times now, but a couple of ideas from your pics, thanks again! Some real beauties there, great job!!!

OK, time to walk the dog & settle in for dinner. Later, all!

My cinderella jack was really tiny as well!!(the one that didn't sprout)

I would love to try some HSO gear, but I am limited by early outdoor finishers for photos. I grow indoors in a vertically limited space(total grow space 28"max), and i stunt autos on purpose so they will fit into my limited space.

Check out https://www.autoflower.org/search/2041380/?q=blackberry+kush&o=date&c[title_only]=1

Mars2 700 - Hmm that does indeed seem fairly close proximity for promoting stacked nodes!!!

I am a fan of great weed....love both sativas and indicas, but due to the above I am limited in what I can grow.

Damn your plants are beauties though bud!! Nice thick bud production!

Thanks for the compliments on the buds; I think (HOPE / fingers crossed) I've got my pic posting worked out using a 3rd party hosting site, so future posts should be more meaningful. At least everything I did yesterday is still displaying... for now.
You mentioned you'd like to try some of HSO's stuff... not sure how familiar you are with ChemDawg, but legend has it that strain parented OG Kush and NYC Diesel. And if you're interested in early finishers, I'd mos'def' try their newer EmDog. A Chemdawg [HASHTAG]#4[/HASHTAG] was back-crossed to it's original OG Kush offspring. Indoor flowering is rated at 8-9 weeks & outdoor finishing late September.
Man, 28" vertical, I need to loan you one of my LED's :crying: You should check out TH Seeds' Auto Original Bubblegum. This beauty almost filled my 2'3" square tent, but with LST it never went past 10" above the ebb n'Gro pot. Rock hard frosty buds, and my highest single-plant yielder ever at 11.76oz. :

Thanks for the BK link, going to check it out now. Later!
