Germination question

Hello AFN !
Something is unclear to me regarding the post germination process, i.e the phase where we plant the sprouted seed in her final pot.
Should I wet the soil, or not ?
If so, to what extent ?
Last time (first grow) I didn't humidify the soil and I think that maybe the plant was stunted - but maybe I'm wrong lol !
Anyway, if someone could clarify this step, It will be a relief because I will start my second grow very soon...
Thanks !

Hello yes make the soil moist not soaking

I use a light fluffy well draining mix (one third perlite) in five gallon airpots. Three days before I place my seedling, I will saturate my medium to runoff, then let the pot sit in the grow environment and lose some weight to go from wet to moist.
This way I know there are plenty of air pockets for the root to breathe as they spread and there will be no chance of damping off. Then it's just a matter of checking moisture content and not watering too often. Roots gotta breathe. Notice how pots are elevated, plus I provide air circulation to keep leaves wiggling. Wet conditions are for DWC, not soil.

Thank you.
For my next grow I plan to use the BioTabs organic grow - there's a special mix to do with their products.
Maybe I shouldn't saturate the mixed medium to run off ?
I'll check on their website if they talk about this.

To know if the soil is perfectly wet. Take a handful and squeeze it hard.
  • If water runs out it is to wet.
  • If it sticks together it is perfect.
  • If the ball falls apart it is to dry.
Now fill a pot an weigh it. This is how heavy your pot should be with soil

Saturate to run off and let it sit over night.Next day Pick it up and feel the weight of it and how heavy it feels. They dont drink much at first so this first watering will carry u for a few days easy. As the soil drys water in a circle around ur plant not on it. Make the roots search for that water. Less is more. Patience is key and the first few weeks are slow compared to the 8 weeks following. Getting ur environment dialed in is 1 of the most crucial things to growing some fire. Temps/ humidity/ air flow and smell control.

I have a question regarding biotabs instructions :
At stage 4 in the manual it says "soak the medium with bactrex and orgatrex mixed in 1l of water ;
Isn't it too much to pre-soak the medium before planting, and then add the mix of water at stage 4 ?

Jiffy peat puck.
Fill ur container with soil.
Make a small area in the middle for the expanded peat puck.
Place seed about a 1/4”down into peat puck, cover lightly with dirt from the puck.
Cut a water bottle in half, mist the inside of the bottom half and place it over the peat puck and it will act as a humidity dome.
Get a bottle of water, and slowly pour it over the top of the humidity dome so it wets the area around the peat puck.
Mist the inside of the dome daily till the sprout comes up. Keep under grow light.
Sit back and wait for a sprout.
Once the sprout appears, do the bottle water thing over the dome, and keep the dome over the sprout for about 4-5 days until it’s established, and you’ll be good to go.
