I have some beans coming from Herbies (AKR), and am gearing up for my first grow.

A quick question on how to germinate properly!

From what I gather I should drop the seed into a glass of water for 24 hours, then transfer to a damp warm paper towel and wait 24-72 hours for the tap root to show, and then transplant.

I plant on germing in a jiffy pot with some jiffy seed starter mix, then into the 2 gallon air-pot.

Thanks!

i would forget the jiffy pot go for a jiffy puck/pellet then streight to 2 gall air pot i dont like jiffy pots i seen to meny go moldy

Sounds like you got it. I hope you have better luck with the jiffy pots then I did. I have way better luck/growth in a party cup.

Ah yes jiffy pucks. That's what I'm using know with great success.

So, think I should ditch the jiffypot and use pucks/pellets? Not quite sure how to use those. Any tips?

Just add water and swell up. Have like a netting that contains the peat. I jiffy green house is lik 6.00 at Walmart. If you live in US. I just soak the seeds and plant right in the peat. Skipping the paper towel. Very good germ rates. I was 15 for 16 last germ.

I totally agree fresh seed doesn't need any soaking. I like the Jiffy pucks also.

I totally agree soaking and paper toweling is a good method but it is all a lot of bother for no better success. Mark me down as another Jiffy puck fan. fast easy and works well. A lot of seeds get damaged by handling them after they sprout.

I totally agree. But I have never had a seed sink that didn't germ. I have had them float and germ. I have also had them crack while soaking in 24 hours. It was fine.

So, if Im getting this right, just take the seed and put it straight to the jiffy pellet? No soaking, or paper towel needed?
