GC's HLG grow show

I'm starting off terrible this run.. combination of new medium (darker doesn't necessarily mean moist), seedlings under the LED in tent vs the T5, and still having the vacation mindset I believe.

But things have turned and I'm seeing new growth in both tents.

In total I have the 4x Double Krush from Lucky Dog in the 3x3, 2x Double Grape and 2x Strawberry Pie x Sour Livers in the 4x4 which are destined for outside. In cabinet are 3x Garlic Sherbert from In House Genetics and I just dropped a Mango Smile for the hell of it.

See how the auto's do, they may get culled if they don't kick into gear.

There is a misconception about seedlings. Think about seedlings sprouting outdoors in late May. How much light are they getting? 1500 ppfd?? More? Lighting is rarely an issue with seedlings, it's almost always an environmental issue, and often is the soil. all soil holds both beneficial and detremental micro life. which one wins is often down to the genetic health of the seedling. It is one of the reasons I use the paper towel method method to germinate then transplant. I believe the seedlings get a jumpstart by germinating in an environment with a much lower population of bacteria, etc. I rarely see damping off in my seedlings done this way. Yes all medium has bacteria and fungi, some just tend to have lower populations. I recently planted direct to soil and my germ rate was about 65%...............

Pops just dropped some knowledge on me.. always appreciate ya bud. I'll see if I can retain any of it.. ;)

I tossed the auto's in the 4x4 outside.. they will get put under gazeebo with expected rain and hand watered. No doubt stunted them so I probably won't be sharing any pics of these.. unless I get surprised. Not expecting much but I'd like to figure out my problem.. I'm leaning towards mis managing this new medium.

In the 3x3 I'm tossing the 4x Double Krush to the firepit. I have 5 more in paper towels now awaiting the medium I'm familiar with. These wont see the autopots till i have success with the other genetics. Just hoping for no thrips from it this season. More Dr Zymes and lady bugs if I see them again. If that's the case I'll be thinking hard about hydroponics.

I have one Mango Smile in the cabinet with the medium I'm having issues with. However.. this plant is very vigorous and looking well. WTF. Now that I think about it.. I didn't add any of the insect frass that the salesman sold me on when I bought the Mechanic Organics medium.. could that be the source of my issue?

The autopts will see a mix of Garlic Sherbert and Maui Mango Haze plants.

Pics once I get things further along. Sucks I lost a month..

Ok, been awhile. I pretty much bailed on the Mechanic Organics medium I was trying out. I can't seem to get many through the seedling stage with it..

So I rinsed the medium from the roots of Garlic Sherbert and dropped them into Roots Organic Original after running into the city. One fared better than the others retaining more rootass.. and is outgrowing her sisters so I just topped it to slow her down a bit hoping the others will catch up. The 4th plant within this 3x3 is a Maui Mango Haze. All under the two 100 Rspec's and doing much better.

The Double Krush replacements were dropped into Roots Organic and the autopot containers, doing well and I'll be putting the trays and tubing in Wednesday.

So, the original DK in the newer medium... eventually 3 made it through the seedling stage.. I think I was underwatering this medium. Their looking better.. live and learn.

Not sure what future the above 4 plants have.. probably given away locally. Or maybe I'll veg them till next run if I can keep them manageable that long.

Looking at the DK in the autopots.. how much time yall think till the roots hit tray and I can turn the reservoir on.. I transplanted from solo about a week to 10 days ago.

Turn on the res now. When the canopy is as wide as the pot, the roots have reached the bottom and begun filling the space of the pot. This applies to all pot sizes.

Done...

I see some are using a small waterpump or airstone in the reservoir.. and keeping tabs on ph fluctuation with an airstone.

Anyone following doing similar and have feedback on either, or nothing at all?

I'm digging it..

Turned the valve on with 6 gallon in reservoir, today I added 2 gallon. Everything is looking content, other than some lower trimming and topping this weekend I won't be bending my old ass over to hand water this tent anytime soon!

With upgraded lighting, what I consider to be good genetics, constantly evolving grow space.. and now automated watering I'm feeling blessed. And excited about producing buds again..

Gonna need another setup for other tent. :)

Lil history.. if youv been following this thread you saw where I ran Tony Green's Tortured Beans GG4 RIL just before my roadtrip. Back to page 5 if your unfamiliar.

Anyway, I left home with about 3 or 4 oz. Left some home for my return. I was bummed it was gone, it was a keeper that a local tried but failed to keep alive for me. So on a whim I reached out to the other local who I just met prior to being gifted the cut...

He still flipping has it! He took cuts just the other night for me.. damn I feel blessed. He will be receiving a few cuts I have running now..

The generosity of people within our community astounds me at times.

Been contemplating getting an Autopot System next year. Glad to see it working well for you!

So far so good! I had been wanting something automated for a few years now, blumats and their occasional flooding had me walk away. Then the Autopots came to my attention, seemed to be working well for others so..

With new lighting I thought it was time.

Double Krush has been topped at 5th or 6th node and some defoliating. Looking for nice wide bushy plants with lots of tops on an even canopy. Time to dial in some technique for upping my yields.
