G13 Pineapple Express - Fem? Herm? NFT setup

hi all,

hoping someone can help me a little with this. I've read loads and looked at many pictures but i can't decide if these ladies have gone male or hermed (they were fem auto seeds).

The pic isn't in best focus sorry, my camera doesn't macro focus. The calixes are long and have a semi translucent ribbon of white on each side. There are some male looking pods in some of the places expected, but they dont have small stems - they are triangular kinda shape. One of the ladies is a definate female, she has pistils sprouting now, but the others just don't look right to me.

In the early stages my timer switch for the nft resevoir pumps failed and put full flow for abt 18 hrs, 5 died from stem rot, and these remaining 5 did suffer severe root damage and some stem necrosis, but hey have struggled through. I read this kinda shock can do things to fem seeds. Plus these ladies are quite old for being auto's especially since they are only just showing sex - germed them mid September and had them under cfl 1week, then 400wMH since. Switched to HPS today as the replacement for the lost 5 have already shown sex on day 30 from 24hr seed soak (SSH auto fem from MS-NL).

Nutes wise - Dutch Pro Hydro veg A+B, with phosphoric acid to balance ph. moving to their Bloom and Explode later - using PH up as that stuff seems real acidic to begin with.

Apologies for the wall of text ;)

can't tell from that pic.but you can tell from the purple in the main stem that the plant is stressed.

I can't tell either but agree on the red stems. Possible lack of P due to lockout or deficiency.

Thx for replies

Yep i think they've had phos deficiency for a while, been wondering if using ph+ and ph- to get more phos into the mix would help ??

Gonna try and get a few more pic's at high res and crop them to see if i can get focus better ... when the batteries have recharged

What pH are you running?

Kept the ph as best i could at 5.8 it has been up higher but never watered at higher than 6.2ph. Got me a digital meter just after the grow started, so its been a lot better and more accurate than the liquid stuff that came with the nft kit. Water temps however have been higher than 64f in the early stages, now cooling the resevoirs.

Thx TBM, there's lots of new and old advice about light schedules with autos, but switching will help to show, good to know; somewhere i read that with an auto giving it 48hrs of dark when starting to bloom would help too - sound right?

I've changed to hps because the new ladies are already showing and want to give them the right lights since they've had no interruptions and growing ok. Gonna help?

Also changing nutes to bloom would or wouldn't help? they've been on veg nutes up to now, last 2 grows were only on bloom nutes with no booster and had no late bloomers or hermie.

Got some better pic's (I hope)

Thx TBM. I think you're probably right about the new ladies, they are going ok, apart from one which the roots were really quick to grow and then got some stem rot, but all have that same red stem from lack of phos.

One thing i need to learn is patience, and when things take a long time, learn it better :toke:
