New Grower Fox farm ocean forest

Just an update fellas. So I'm almost two weeks in and the pants seem to be loving the ffof. The purple haze from genofarm must be able to take nutes at a young age. One of my two is showing explosive side branch growth already. I wouldn't try to start directly in ffof again, and I may never buy it again, but so far it seems like the bag I got is a good one. (Mixed with the rite genes of course)

  1. Good deal Medme! Fox Farms Ocean fresh is a good soil and yeah it's hot but still decent soil. Once you do a couple of grows you will find what "you" like and go from there. I personally use Happy frog and it's a mild soil and I don't feed anything but silica and cal mag for the first two weeks for autos and 4weeks for photos. See how it goes and if you don't like it then you can go on a different path as far as soil goes. You are always going to run into problems with nutes at the beginning(I should say it is very possible especially with FFOF) but I was taught always go safe and don't push it until you know what you pushing and why. As long as you don't pound a bunch of nutes before three to four weeks. Just a suggestion try a more mild soil mix and then you can control what goes and when it goes in instead of guessing if the time is right. Look into run off tests (there is a sticky in the fourm) you take a sample of runoff after a watering and see where you are parts per million (It's the concentration of solubles(minerals) in the water you feed you plants) and ph. Personally I don't use a ppm meter because I never push it that hard but the ppm meter will help you avoid nute burn because you will know know how much you have in you water and whether or not you are in danger of nute burn. I used FFOF at first but made the mistake of pounding nutes at week 2 with 35 clones and lost just about all of them. It's good to learn because it would be no fun if it was just a matter of throwing a seed into the ground and just water it. I don't know if you do or not but keep a journal so you know what to do and when to do it by re reading the log if you run into the same situation next grow. Yeah as it was said before some strains handle nutes better than others. I did 3 auto plants a couple of months ago and all the same strain and one of the three was way more sensitive and the breeder advises to give more nutes(they were GSC from fast buds. Some can and some can't but there are strains that can and will handle a little more of hotter soil. I would recommend Roots organic (I think A train mentioned Roots brand?) Peace ........:headbang:

I don't know where to get roots near me. I would definitely give it a shot tho. Thanks for the input, I've learned quite a bit from this thread.

I know you can order soils online ,I have never checked it out personally but the shipping is most likely it's not cheap. Look for something near you that is comparable to Roots or Happy Frog. Your local garden shop guy should be able to point you in the right direction. Your welcome for the input and I am glad you learned a few tidbits,I am on my second grow and these are the things I learned on the first run. There is so much to learn it's a great hobby that can be frustrating but you are in the right community. Peace...

How does the happy frog hold up after a few months? I can get it local but heard it gets hard and doesn't take water well after a while.
