New Grower Fox farm ocean forest

Regardless of what I have and don't have, I've grown directly in FFOF a few times with no burn. The soil has enough nutes in the soil for a good three weeks alone. After those 3 weeks I start with lite feelings and still don't get burn. Ymmv.

I'll continue to go directly in FFOF and if anything changes I'll definitely post it up.
do you also act like that with auto's?

First off we can all learn things from each other, wether it's what to do or not to do so let's keep an open mind and spread the positive AFN vibe.

I will say this. FFOF soil has had a history of being too hot for SOME seedlings. Some strains can handle the hot stuff at a young age and love it while others tend to suffer until they get established. My reccomendations is to watch folks that ypu see using this medium live in their documented journals and follow their lead. The guys I see using it with success usually do not run in FFOF alone they have a blend to use the pre feted soil to their advantage at the same time taking the edge off it and using a feed svhedule layer when the plants are established.

I can tell you most of the guys I see in trouble with their plants have used pre fertilized soils and later fed and it gets our of whack. I always reccomend to the new guys to find a soil with little to no nutrients and start a proven feed schedule arpund day 10. The soil with no nutes allows you to conto your feedings and know exactky what they are getting and exactky what levels they are getting it at. This will help to diagnose problems when problems arise in the future.

I hope this info helps p.m me anytime I'll do anything I can to help. Best of luck with your grow bud

Thanks everyone for being so kind and sharing all of this knowledge with me. And thanks atrain I'm sure I will be sending you a pm sometime in the future when I have some troubles. Until then I'm going to keep researching and learning as much as I can.

:toke: Hi Medme-- ...looks like my man A-Train has shared some proper gospels about FF soils, or any nutrient rich brand! It's just the plain truth, and the main source of confusion about certain soils: auto's, even pheno's, can vary in tolerances by quite a bit, in everything from nutrients to pest stress/vulnerability; this is an artifact of the complex cross breeding that goes into creating an all new sub-class of cannabis! :woohoo1: Now, as the Sick Bay guy around here, I'd like to add onto this with further cautions about their soils,... First, I'll say I used their soils early on, and they were great, it's what got them their fame back then, but things have changed sadly,... I know from first hand, quality has gotten rather dicey :nono:... here's a link to a thread about their soils; as you'll see, it's pretty extensive, a big enough issue that one of our founders felt the need to make an warning thread about them!...( https://www.autoflower.org/threads/beware-of-fox-farms-ocean-forest-soil.34044/ ) ... I realize some folks do just fine with their soils , likely because it's put together at several different places around the country, different sourcing materials and such,... But it's something of a craps shoot, I'm telling you! The main problem I'm seeing these days is horribly off pH, right out of the bag! I'm talking in the low 5's --(including the milder Happy Frog)-- astonishing, considering it's supposedly amended with lime...I have actually gone to different local shops in my area, hearing about similar complaints, and got permission to test bags with a soil pH probe; I tested several at each place, different shipments, and to the last, all were overly acidic.... I think they're "under cooking" the soil, and using less than stellar ingredients at times to make quota,... pH this low is instant problems for any plant, let alone seedlings.. compound that with the richness of the soil, and you get singed, stunted, hammered lookin' seedlings! And with auto's, there's not time to let it 'grow out of it" like photo plants can; typically by week 3, sexing is on, and veg'ing is coming to a close soon after,...
So, if you want to use their soils, I recommend you make sure to test it out first if you have the right equipment (Accurate 8 by Control Wizard is a good unit), and use Happy Frog for starting,... Otherwise, I'd steer clear of them... I don't know where you are, but if you can find it, Sanctuary Soil and Feed makes excellent soils,... Roots Organics 707 and Original are popular, but seem to have weak buffering sometimes,.. most folks add a little more lime to it before planting,... there's lots of choices, just depends on what's local, just insist on highest quality, and if you can, confirm the pH before using.. even good brands can have a bad mix sometimes! :goodluck:
