Hey Growmies,

I've got 5 or 6 years experience in growing cannabis. However I've mostly stuck with photo-periods. Last year I tried autos for the first time. I popped 2 beans and had them outdoor. Both of them vegged for +/- 5 weeks. One grew 35cm (14 inch) the other half that. I was quite pleased with the final yield especially from the bigger plant. So I thought if they did that good outdoor I should try them indoor where they can really shine (supposedly).

I popped 2 beans. Imagine my disappointment when only after 18 days my Gorilla glue from fast buds showed pistils very stocky (9 cm / 3.5 inches) the other a Critical (unknown breeder) did the same only 2 days later she's slightly bigger (13cm/ 5.2 inches) but very small still. My first instinct was to pull them but after sleeping on it for 2 days I've decided to transplant and let them run their course. However knowing I will be getting next to nothing from these 2 plants I decided to pop 2 more beans (1 white widow (unknown breeder and 1 girl scout cookies from fast buds)

My question is what can I be doing (if anything to cause them to flower prematurely. I would really like them to veg out for a good 5 weeks. Thanx in advance for any help coming my way.

Kind Regards,

I am no expert but I mean they are AUTO flowering if they are showing pistols at 18 days I really wouldn’t be to concerned and expect a failed or flawed grow. There’s nothing you can really do to control the flowering of an Auto plant and I also don’t really think there is a way to speed it up. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. If anything I would be stoked, more buds my friend.

But like I said I’m a noobie... take what I say with a grain of salt. Hope all goes well my friend!

Need the full info, how you germinated, what your growing in and under, temps, humidity... etc. Otherwise we're just guessing.

Again just a guess but it sounds like they are stunted and are missing their vegetative blow up that happens where they get bigger. Plus this is just me I wouldn’t transplant them if not done correctly it can stunt them. All autos have a different internal clock some flower later some very soon that’s why you have to be careful with them cause you don’t have a lot of time

At 18 days, I would be looking for my plants to start showing - especially the males. it is a few days early, but I don't really hear anything wrong other than they are small - I assume as you've not mentioned it, they are looking ok. It could be an issue of your original containers being too small, and you've stunted them, especially as you are a photo grower where you can pot up multiple times. Pics would tell a great deal in this situation.

Personally I would say transplant them into their final pots, and see what happens. I've had plenty of smaller plants that yielded well, as they tent to be all bud rather than get all leggy.

Strain selection is very important with autos. Smaller strains finish fast (start flowering early....)while larger strains will veg longer (hence the bigger plants). Personally, the way I look at it, is I decide weather I want a crop of small/fast plants that I can turn around quickly, in 60 days or so (more harvests per year) or large/longer running plants will give you a much larger per plant harvest...but can go in the neighborhood of 100+ days (less harvest per year). I've done it both ways and prefer larger plants that take longer. Also, I have found that pot size makes a difference. Big pots=big plants but take longer to finish (this is dependent upon the grower...stunted plants will stay that way because there is no time for recovery). Hope it helps.
