Hi all,
This will be my first ever grow. I've done quite a bit of reading and hopefully this will become a very productive hobby. So here goes I live in the middle of the highlands so getting things as been difficult I've brought most things online due to this. My business went under last year before christmas and as of yet I still have no job so as you can imagine I'm also on a tight budget. But this hopefully can still be done.
I'm doing an indoor closet grow 3 1/2 ft wide 4 1/2ft high. I germinated the seed (mystic blue feminised) in paper towels and then planted into a peat block. I'm now on day nine and the seedling has just two small leaves and can see the tab root popping through the bottom of the block. So when is it time to plant into soil? I got miracle grow organic soil am hoping this will be ok, should I buy perilite to mix in? The light I'm using now is 325watt blue spec cfl? I will be getting a red spec next week but am not sure when to change them over? So this my friends is the story so far. Please tag along
And pull me up where I'm wrong and point in the rite direction. Any help and suggestions and even critisims will be appreciated the goal is the best plant I can get with the small budget I have. Thanks in advance mandycheese

Welcome to the AFN mandy cheese. Glad to have you. Sorry about your losses and troubles.

I'll start with saying that it is the general consensus to steer away from MiracleGrow soils as they have nutrients in them and are usually too 'hot' for young Autoflower seedlings. This is not ALWAYS the case, just putting that out there. But you do always want to mix perlite into whatever you're using. This will make it more airy like Cannabis loves and hold moisture too.
You can use those blue all the way through on AFs if you wanted. Or mix that red in if you want no matter. They flower either way.
>What kind of surface is the inside of your closet?
>Are you using a tent?
>What kind of ventilation do you have setup?

I recommend going around a going through growers threads and seeing how everyone is setting up. You'll learn a ton and get an idea of what the basics are...
Hope this helped. Good luck!

Hi squidherb thanKs for visitin, I white washed the walls in there hopin that wud do the trick for the single plant, there r no vents in there was hoping I cud just open the door a wee bit during the day when the lights were on as its upstairs away from prying eyes. (Not that we get any visitors lol only sheep) what compost would you recomend although it will have to be something I can buy online with there being no shops around. Just to buy bread is 10 mile!! Thinkin ill have to do this pretty soon I do have a grow bag which I brought for my toms would that comp be any use? Cheers for takin the time to read my thread.

You should plant into soil as soon as possible. Autos like to start and finish in the same container. Smaller pots will limit final size and yield. At least a gallon would be good but I have used quarts when that's what I had available.

Hey hipster, thanks for lookin in. I have brought 2 five gallon pots just worrying about the soil situ now as dnt wanna use the miracle grow incase it hurts her. Do have the grow bag which I brought for my veg although I not used it yet so I could use that soil in which case I cud get perilite in the mornin I'm sure the farmer will have some then I can plant her 2morra. My husband aint too keen on my new found hobby so I gotta be careful how much I spend until I'm bk in work. Thanks again.☺

hell ya mandy cheese, your a bad-ass welcome to AFN. I started some seeds in a soil that I made from a recipe on here and i didn't have a single one sprout. I got pissed and threw some seeds in straight up miraclegro seed starter and it flourished. My only problem was once I transplanted my pH got a little high and affected my plant. The reason miraclegro is discouraged is because it has slow release nutrients in it so with the nutes already in plus the added nutes it is fairly easy to burn them. Since your about to plant into its final pot, I would try and get the best soil as possible. There are no good shops around here either its a bunch of shit. Good luck with everything.

Hey there. Painted white is great. Nice even reflection. With that small of a setup and one plant you could probably get by without 'proper' ventilation. The air needs to be exchanged frequently(every five minutes I believe) And the temps need to stay stable(73-78) ranging a little +/- from this range is OK just try and stay here. That's what ventilation does. Exchange air and stabalize temps and humidity. You need a temp/humidity guage to keep an eye on things. Also, the plant needs a small fan inside circulating air around and stimulating wind for the plant, this strengthens stems and keeps air circulated. Follow the other advice given on pot size and when to transplant those seem like good advice. I don't use compost mixes so I can't help you there. If you're ordering look for Promix BX or Sunshine mix. It's mostly spaghum peat moss and perlite. A lot of the really good growers use it, I know Muddy does and he rules, you'll meet him eventually on here he's one of the New Growers Moderator, along with Joe Dirt. There is another too but I can't think of their name right now. Sorry dude! haha. Hope this helped Mandy Cheese. later

Welcome Mandy cheese. Is this a Mystic Blue or Nirvanas Auto Blue Mystic? I have grown the Nirvana Blue Mystic and actually did a journal on here for it and a grow report/smoke report. It's a great strain. Pretty easy to grow for a beginner. I've been growing for many moons and 100s of plants and I gotta say they can take a beating. If your growing mystic blue I can't help ya there I've never grown it so I don't know what it's like. I will second the statement to steer clear of Miracle Grow. Can it be done? Yes. I've seen seed starter grows, miracle grow organic and moisture control grows. But never without any problems. Most were a fight to the finish. The lighter and cleaner the soil the better. Especially when it comes to Autos. I would transplant it into it's final place asap. No point in stressing it later. You don't have a lot of recovery time with autos so any mistake hurts the final product. They will start flowering by themselves anywhere from 3-5 weeks maybe even sooner. You want to optimize your veg
Time to the fullest. You can start with your blues and throw your reds on to whenever you like. It's not going to hurt anything. If you can get another soil do it. If not I would give a good rinse to
The miracle grow organic and add about 25-30% perlite. Transplant them into that and just feed plain water for the next week or two. You don't want to transplant them then insanely start feeding them because with the hot soil and added nutes you can easily burn them at this stage. Just keep a close eye on them. They will let you know when it's time. Good luck bro. :peace:

Hey all thank you, I love how everyone is helpful on here. A little update then I drove the 40 miles this mornin to get compost and perlite. The compost was the best they had in the shop and its got a ph neutral level and a low nutrient level. The story I had to tell the woman in the shop was unbelievable. Ask no questions get told no lies was what I really wanted to say. :p So I planted the baby about an hour ago she has to new leaves today so I'm smiling that means she must be happy I think. I put a fan in the closet and I also brought a liquid ph tester for the soil. I've ordered a three in one from amazon which should be here in the next couple of days. So fingers crossed all will be well. It is the nivarna auto captain I read your grow journal all the way through!! Was just too shy to comment lol. How is captain jr doin? As for the name bikini I used to have a deli and that's what the fellow traders used to call me. Ha ha it just stuck as my name since. Even my kiddies call it me. Thank u everyone ill keep u posted n hopefully put some photos on just now sure how to do it from the blackberry. :D

Sheep poop tea would be an ideal fert for your girls after sex.

Just put the poop in some kind of porous sack...and suspend in a bin of water for about 4 weeks..cheap and available.

If covert is a problem..get yourself tomato food..veg and flower...
(don't feed them with any flower fert Before sex. If you can only afford One..go for Veg ferts...)

Get ordinary Universal compo..no added ferts...
it will be sufficient for your girls until about day 12 from germ..then half strength veg ferts twice a week after that.

Don't forget to do yourself a little pollenation...getting self-sufficient in seed is not only Safe..
it takes away the main cost..

Good Luck...:wiz:
