Haha yeah me too but thats a lot of work. Haw many autos could you grow in a room that size ? Just once I'd like to grow a cannabis plant bigger than my artificial christmas tree.
The Short Stuff Seeds website says that Short Stuff Auto #1 males show sex at 17 days and females at day 20. I now have 2 confirmed females at 24 and 26 days from seed. So I guess I'm on schedule. My short squatty SDH has revealed his testicles at day 28 from seed. I love how tiny the plant is. I think I will keep it long enough to collect pollen and then send him outside.
I like a good plan, it sounds like you have one, your on the right track, I've been there too and ended up HERE. LOL. I just started playing with these recently too and am of similar mind. I like the seed choices you've made so I'm gonna tag along for the ride. What i've been doing is sprouting on paper towels and once they split I put them right into the pots they'll finish in. I fill the pot with rich grow dirt then dig a fist size hole in the middle which I fill with no nutrient, weak, seed starting soil. Then cover with a dome till they break through the dirt, after they poke through you'll want to take the domes off ASAP. I think thats what DABARACCUS meant too. Anyhow, welcome aboard, lets grow some BUD :gthumb:
Today marks day 30 for my two oldest plants. Both SDH and both are male. I don't know if I should get rid of one or not. I'm leaning towards yes just to make room for the smaller ones that are now starting to fatten up. I'll make a decision in the next day or two. I welcome any advice one way or the other.
Now that I've been doing this for a month I have to say how delighted I am to be doing this. It was a little tense at first. I made things too complicated with my hydro setup. Ever since I put them in soil it has been smooth sailing and I'm enjoying the growing experience immensely. I'm having a lot of fun. I'm not following any set schedule for feeding. I'm just going with my gut like I did when I grew veggies indoors decades ago. I'm keeping it as light and organic as I can. I'm also very pleased with the size of these plants. I'm sure I stunted them a little but when I was seed shopping these seemed ideal to me because they all typically stay between 10 and 20 inches tall. Height was my number one concern and what lead me to autos in the first place. So with a little more than a month and change left for some of these girls I'm seeing pistols sprouting everywhere on at least 3 of the SS#1 plants. I think I saw the beginning of some on the 4th but we will probably know tomorrow. So that means all my SS#1 regular seeds are female. All but my youngest SDH is male. And the rest are feminized seeds. That's 9 females out of 12 seeds. Not bad !!! I hope we don't see any hermies but these Short Stuff seeds have been "as advertised" so far so I don't have any doubt in the genetics.
If you need me I'll be sitting on a stool talking to my plants and playing the Bob Marley channel on Pandora until the lights go off. They smell like candy.
Here's a shot of he grow.
I killed the boys. I decided I just didn't have room to keep them.
The girls are starting to grow a ton of pistils.
So far Both Himalaya Blue Diesel, One Sharkbite, All 4 SS#1, and one AKR have shown to be female.
My last SDH is growing with a really funky node pattern. Instead of having branches that oppose each other on each side like normal it has decided to grow one at a time about 120 degrees at a time.
I started a couple AKR the other day for a friend.
Check it out.
High everybody !
I have reduced and reorganized the grow closet. I gifted my last AKR and my last SDH to a growing buddy. My closet was just too crowded and honestly it still is but I'm going to make it work.
My buddy also loaned me a 2700K bulb so I officially have dual spectrum lighting now. I've already got a short list going of the strains I want to grow next. So many members of this site are growing
Think Different and loving it so I'm going to jump on that bandwagon but I'm gonna have to prepare a larger growing area. I'm probably going to get a 4 x 8 tent for my next grow. I love diy stuff but I'm not in good enough shape at the moment to start any construction projects.
I did a little experiment with my bloom nutes on my two small SS#1's and one of them got a little burn. I've flushed since and everything is fine but now I know exactly what strength to mix my bloom nutes.
All but two plants have shown sex.
Here are the latest photos.
My largest SS#1 i about 14 inches tall. It is starting to develop bud sites everywhere. I counted 15 before I lost my place. Her older sister is about 12 inches tall and hasn't sexed yet but I'm not seeing any evidence of naners. Both the Himalaya Blue Diesel are starting to develop bud sites also and are looking super healthy. One Shartbite is keeping pace with the HBDs and one just started to do some real growing. The larger one is showing 6-8 bud sites so far and the small one hasn't even thought about gender yet. I just realized that my grow is now exclusively Short Stuff seeds. I'm happy about that. These things pretty much grow them selves. I've done a little leaf tucking to expose the budding nodes to more light but I don't really have to do squat to these things. I just feed/water when they need it and they seem to be maintenance free otherwise. My 2 smallest SS#1's have got me really excited at this point. They are just at a month old and are beginning to flower aggressively. When I look at them from the bottom I can already see clusters of fully formed calyx and I'm starting to see frostiness too. I'm anticipating a very jolly Christmas season.
