New Grower First Grow Journal

You know, I'm not sure with organics, there is, or needs to be a "perfect mix". Use a little of what’s useful to the plant and start with decent soil, and your good to go! Maybe certain amendments will work better for your situation than others and you find that from experimenting. but the great thing is, when you find what works for you, its easy to duplicate everytime, even the measuring of the ingredients is not terribly important, within reason. Myself, I just want it to be simple. There fewer things I add, the easier it will be to determine what a problem is, if one should delelop.

Sounds like a plan for me ... keep my soil simple! I want to grow my 1st AF crop by starting seedlings inside and moving 3 gallon smart pots outside to finish. I live a little south of 37 degrees latitude. Anyone have any experience as to a target date for popping seed and when it's safe to leave the outside. Also, when is it too windy, or too cold to let them sunbathe?

Sorry, I didn't mean to go off thread. I actually thought I was posting on Pop's thread.

Day 37

Pretty much on autopilot at this stage. Except for minor adjustments to room, light trimming, and turning the girls, most of my work is prepping for grow #2. In transition from veg to flower at day 37. They've settled down to feeding at 500tds @ 5.9PH and plain PH'd water every other day. Monitoring runoff.
The two best plants, with one behind by about a week:

...and Dani, who was damaged horribly by wild PH swings early in her life, then dropped on her head by a drunk gardener:

...and finally before and after pics of the MUTANT:

By the end of this summer EVERY PLANT on my property will have been analyzed and made more comfortable. Worked a giant lily bed yesterday and ended up with over 60 bulbs. Now they're EVERYWHERE! Heirloom tomatoes getting ordered today...

Y'know...I got this BIG ASS sign on my tent that sez "NO DRUNK GARDENING"! But do I lissen to my own advice? My dad always called me a Pollack.

The grow is going better than expected...so wife & I get home from dinner & cocktails...went to tuck the girls in and discovered that the plant in the drip/coco needs more juice in the rez and not dripping like it's sposta. All the girls are drinking more now...so Joe Pollack decides to mix a 7 Gallon batch o' juice in anticipation of increased watering. Big elevated tub with hose & nozzle - slick set-up, easy watering (DIY - pollack style). Filled tub, tested PH, added Cal/Mag, adjusted PH again, and decided to get ANOTHER BEER. Grabbed two. When I got back to the garage, TOTAL BLACKOUT! The 'slick setup' failed and the hose poured into the power strip. Oh FACK! Good thing everything is ground-faulted! Took me less than 5 minutes to rectify the situation; fresh power strip yanked from office, dried all prongs, reset ground faults, cranked it back up. Completed the intended tasks. I had to explain to the girls that sometimes a 'CLOUD COVER' occurs and that everything would be just fine. They were probably basking in the temporary darkness as I'm running them ragged with a 24/7 light regimen.

Finished the mix and the beers, tended to Dani (Jock Horror in drip/coco) and planted my ass HERE with a little 128.9 proof Bookers. Aint got no nugs. I REFUSE to finance the local 'nogoodniks'! It's rough but DRUNK GARDENING seems to be the salve.

I'll clean up tomorrow -hic

Glad you wasn't standing in the spill when the flood happened! Hang in there Eggman, I like your style, sounds like something that I would do!

Day 41

What a long strange trip it's been...

Getting gun-shy with nutrients after nute-burn...These babies are fickle...looks like below 580ppm and above 500. Damn. They all love 5.9PH, runoff is always at 6.1. All girls have begun to flower.

Heres Butch at day 41:

P2090221.jpg Of course, the ONE time I didn't calibrate my shitty PH meter...

Aggie:

P2090224.jpgP2090225.jpg A few days behind Butch, but she's resilient! She can take all the abuse a first time grower can throw at her! The healthiest of the bunch!

...and Dani...I predicted some time ago that she would vie for the top producer after transplanting her to drip/coco. She drinks like a fish and has grown at a rate roughly twice that of any other in the tent...especially after changing from MH to HPS. Crappy pic 'cause I dont want to feck up the tent:

P2090228.jpg She's quite healthy despite a little nute burn now and again...this is due to the rez becoming concentrated. I can now determine the rez content at a glance! I REALLY like this method. I stated earlier that coco in smartpots would be my next grow...I think I'll do 2 of those and 2 drip/coco..we'll see.

And...the MUTANT (Cheryl)...now this is a STRANGE plant. I've practiced FIMMing with her and will have two colas instead of one on her weak side. Fun shit!

P2090230.jpg Tent is filling up.
