New Grower First Grow Ever (NY)

Ok maybe no LTS on the first grow if you think it’s too late. I read you shouldn’t start until your plant fills the pot. False?

If anything at this point you can tie down branches to spread them out for more light penetration in the center. Spring clips on the side of the bags are great for that.

I’m still experimenting with my cheap seeds and am trying some defol earlier than last time. Haven’t lst’d the main stem just spacing the branches. Amy is 24 days old and I cut the first and second set of fan leaves a couple days ago because they were blocking light and because I wanted to see what affect it had on her. Their light was blocked by the fan leaves above them and I get the solar panel argument but at the same time ive never seen a solar panel installed behind equipment where the sun is mostly blocked out. Could be wrong could be right only time will tell but what do you guys think? Will it fuck her up in ways I’ll never notice?

Looks good, Joe! At this point, I might just let them grow naturally…they’re very bushy. I wouldn’t even know where to start. Just try to bend the main stem to one side? Fack!

When do you all usually start LST on autos? Any supporting literature / videos or anything? Much appreciated. I’d like to get this down my next go around. I’m sure these are going to be sad yields, but it’s my first grow — expected. It’s been fun so far though!

lots of stuff on youtube. i havent bent a stem yet, I’ve just been pulling my branches out to the light. And I’ve been trimming the fat bottom fan leaves, seems to encourage growth. Some will say different and yell solar panel but I can only go by what my eyes are seeing. And if it dies I’ll just plant another one but keeping it simple with common sense seems to work just fine. Since you have two treat em different and trim one and pull the nodes down and see what happens. Not much to lose but a weed.

True. Maybe the whole wait til your plant fills your pot was specific to photos since you can veg those forever. Would make more sense anyways…

I think as your next seed sprouts and grows and you’re armed with a little more knowledge now, you will instinctively know when to bend pull and trim. But even more so if you “sacrifice“ these two by experimenting to see what happens. I am curious though how far your light is, is it dimmed, and what’s your approx ppfd according to the photone app? (I’m trying myself to learn why our plants look different at only 2 days apart)

By the way, by different I mean size. Amy and Alice are 16” tall with 7” leave fingers at 24 days old and yours seem less developed at 26. Wondering if just a light thing? Also my temp is always 75-78 day and 66-68 night and humidity always 50-57. I only use humidifier occasionally for a day here and there cuz here by the beach it’s usually 45-60 ambient rh. I’m definitely not doing anything right “on puprose” because I’m still learning and developing “my way” to grow. We came in here together and I enjoy learning with you. As far as lighting they were born at edges of tent 42” away from 100% light and are happily growing to it. Plan is light doesn’t move til approx 24-26” then raise it a few inches.
