How goes it you naughty horticulturists?
Been a beautiful day here, shame I didn't get out to see a bit more of it but hey we're healthy so is what it is.
That said I've been off to the infirmary a couple of times this week, nah for the girls not me, as some tip burn I'd noticed started to worsen and turn in to tip twist and general ugliness. Received some really good help from a few of you and if you happen to be reading thank you again. I suspected I was giving too much light too soon and that may still be the case but for now I'm sticking with the blurple as temps are too low without.
What also became apparent is that I've been giving too much calmag from the off, pointed out to me by another fine grower. I was concerned about the lack of minerals in RO but I think there's enough traces in the medium for early life and lately I've been mixing in a small amount of boiled tap so will deffo be some in that. This take the Ppm from about 4 to 60-80 mark before anything else is added.
It was also suggested I should check soil PH to cut along story I ended up watering to run off with plain water at 6.6 and the run of measured 5.1 from two of the girls & 5.6 from the Purple Lemonade. This probably explains the few rust spots I also noticed on the Smoothie as I think calcium is being locked out due to low soil PH.
Rather than subject the ladies to a flush I've decided to just give em un PH'd water and hope that this will raise the PH enough to get these gals done.
So last night they had water only at 7.3 mixing half a litre of boiled tap into my 6 litre watering can. Good news is the tip burn and rust spots dont seem to have got any worse and where they didn't seem to grow much for a couple of days they seem to be back on track for now at least. I did ponder about watering at the high end of the 6-7 scale as I'm aware from previous grows that soil can become acidic. I've got a few things to think about for the next run but that's how it should be I suppose!
Whilst all this was going it seems I snapped a lower branch off moving them in and out to collect run off
clumsy get!
No major dramas, I was a bit concerned as it was so close to the bottom of the main stem but have decided to try and save it for now by splinting it but if it's gotta go ill probably cut it jus above the damage with scissors.
Some day 28 photies:
I'll try and give an update in a couple of days so until then keep growing yous lot!
