New Grower first blue amnesia xxl journal

just a quick update on the girls
last night it had been 3 days since the first flush and the pots had started to dry out a bit and feel a lot lighter so back in the tub they went for another dose of tap water.
the BA leaves have now really started to turn colour and im seeing more and more purple darker buds appearing :)
the criticals leaves have almost all turned a red colour, I am spotting a few amber trichromes here and there and think will be ready very soon.
its now end of day 4 of flush so think may go a week. 10 days if I can wait!
criticals are the first two in pics
peace

How big of pots and what soil mix and nutes were you using? I got 2 of these going one in a 3 gallon smart pot and one in a 2 gallon plastic pot they are both 24 days old and the one in the plastic pot is about 6 inches tall and good large leaves but the one in the smart pot is a bit smaller any advice I started the seeds in black gold and after 2 weeks puller retainer cups to allow them to go into dr earth with 8qt of black gold and 8 qt of perlite the one in the plastic pot was in dr earths for about a week and a half and then out into just dr earth pot of gold and perlite any advice here?

Thanks,Chuck

Hey chuck
This my first grow so still getting my head around things and being from the UK my measurements are metric so bear with me .
All my pots are square 18 litre ones (roughly 3 1/2 gallons) with a few extra drain holes drilled in the bottom for added drainage.
My medium is canna professional coco mixed with perlite at a 70/30 ratio so about 12.5 litres coco to 5.5 litres of perlite.
I use the complete range of house and garden. Coco a&b, roots exelurator, bud xl for flower and top booster in last few weeks.
I started mine in party cups and transplanted into pots after about 2-3 weeks and i didn't kill them but think it may have stunted a couple of plants so that could be a reason why 1 of yours is smaller but its hard to say, I'll be planting seed straight into final pot for sure next time! I've now learned that autos don't like to be transplanted.
All I can say about the blue amnesia is that it seems like a strong hardy plant that takes a lot of water (compared to my other criticals) and I had no real problems with nute burn and went up to full strength after about 4-5 weeks.
My bit of adicve is start LST and trimming as soon as possible coz mine got a bit bushy and restricted light to my lower budsites.

Happy growing man

oh and do you have a journal going?

The time has finally come and this morning after 24 hrs darkness I gave them the chop. I think they looked great and got some nice buds off of it, anyway it took me 3 hrs by myself to cut trim and hang all 5 and I feel baked lol pictures and more details to come later when I sort them onto computer

chopy chop

This morning was day 80 and time for them to all come down.
I checked the trichromes on them and they were all cloudy with about 10% amber on them so spot on for me.
I pulled them all out stripped off the fan leaves and and trimmed all my buds nice and tight, I collected 650 grams of fresh trim and popcorn buds that went straight in a zip lock in the freezer ready to do some ice water extraction as my bubble bags turned up today :)
I noticed while trimming that the BA has a lot more resin than the critical and the buds are denser too. Most of them have turned a beautiful dark purple/blue but some of the lower buds are still a bit frosty and lighter in colour.
I've now hung them back up in my tent on an old clothes airier at 19°c with 48% humidity. I have a small 6 inch fan on lowest setting blowing over my heater to circulate the air. I hope to leave them in for about 5-7 days.
This is what I got off of each plant wet with stalk

critical no1 - 131 grams

Critical no 2 - 246 grams

this is the root system out of the pot does this look normal? im not sure what to expect

and here's my drying setup

P1090668.jpgP1090670.jpg

just got to play the waiting game now

Dude, you did good! That BA looks awesome! I got mine out today to hit on and boy oh boy, I forgot how nice it is! Have patience for the slow dry and a good cure and you will be one happy son of a gun.

And those roots looks fantastic! Bright white and not overly root bound. Only suggestion is a bigger pot!

Thanks blessed
Well I've got a couple of the small buds dry already so gonna have a treat when I finish work tonight :)
But I'll be waiting at least 7 days for the rest tho and I have a few jars ready for curing after its dry.
Do you remember what the dry weight from yours were? So I have something to compare to.

My pots are 18ltrs so might try a couple in some 25 ltr pots and see if it can make any improvement next time.

I have 5 more BA seeds that have just popped in paper towels so I'm good to go for grow 2!!

Right, I know its a couple of weeks late but here is my final report on this journal.
After the chop all buds were hanging in my tent and stayed there in darkness for 7 days at 18°c and 55% humidity for a nice slow dry, by the end the stems were dry enough to snap clean in half but still a little sticky in the bud (the way I like it) I trimmed all the bud of the stalk and cut into smaller nuggets ready to cure. Oh the smell is beatifull :)
So here is my final weight off of each plant dried trimmed and ready to smoke! Critical 1. 20 grams Critical 2. 42 grams BA 1. 60 grams BA 2. 88 grams BA 3. 62 grams so all in I have 9.7 ounces.

The BA smokes lovely and is really really strong, tastes a bit fruity with that heavy amnesia taste to it, i tent to keep this for an evening smoke if i want to get anything done in the day that is lol and the critical tastes a little more earthy like a skunk taste but still with notes of citrus and fruit althought his strain is not as strong and more of a heady high so this is my day smoke.
Not bad off of 5 plants on my first grow, the most interesting thing is I can see more potetial from these plants to produce bigger yields and better denser buds with a bit more training and more accurate environment control. So I have just bought a fan speed controller with thermostat to control temp and airflow and a humidifier to keep the humidity up in the all important veg stage and also and ec truncheon to keep a better eye on my nutrient solution and to measure runoff for flushing etc.

None of these plants went to waste and I mean none of it! I made a batch of ice hash with about half a kilo of trim and ended up with a nice sprinkling of hash. Used the old leaves to make some canna butter, then I used all the stalks to make some weed tea which actually tasted quite nice and my misses even tried some haha

Things I did wrong;
Didn't pre soak my coco prior to planting seeds
Transplanted too many times (twice)
Didn't keep humidity high enough
burned plants with 600 HP's, light too close to start with.
Didn't start feeding with cal/mag straight away( the BA seemed to suffer with calcium deficiency)

Things I did right;
Read as much as I could on the AFN website
Started a journal
Wrote everything down on a calendar
Fed plants little and often
Gave a good flush and slow dry
check them twice a day every day, sometimes more lol

So all in all I loved my first grow and already have 5 more BA about 2 weeks old and also have a couple of different strains in 6 litre pots to try them out, I have 1 of Barney's farms tangelo rapido and 1 bomb seeds THC bomb, anyone grown either of these?

And finally I'd just like to say thanks to all the guys on here that have followed my journal and helped me out.
Until next time...
Here are couple of pics of some of finished product. I'll get ones off my camera later and throw them on here
