Dutch Passion DP Think Different 4x4 tent 1000w MH/HPS DWC Giddy UP!!

Thanks guys, I'm pretty pumped now. I finished my drain system on my res, so now all I gotta do is hit a valve and dump the res. Should save alot of ass ache, now gonna put in a sink up there as well so I can use that to dump other stuff easily(dwc buckets). next thing is gonna be a few hundred gallon water tank but down the road 1500 gallon water tank and sump pump in it for instant water. Lugging buckets suck.
Probably gonna do a res change tonight, see how I feel. I gotta go to dr and get sedated to see what this friggin stomach pain is(scope this afternoon), yaaayyy can't effing wait, not. My gardening really helps with the stresses of life, complete happy place:D

Day 19 Update

Here are my babies, doing pretty well so far. Tonight was the first time my ec and ph were just about where I left them last night. Gonna do a res change tomorrow, hopefully the damn water will run long enough through a hose without freezing. This -20F shit is for the birds.

I did a res change today. My res is 65 gallon plastic on its side filled about 55ish gallons full.

Initial readings: After filling with straight well water.
PH: 9.4(I know I was like WTF seems way high but checked many times)
EC: .237

Took 95ml of ph down (grow more brand)
Added nutes and
PH: 5.7
EC: .637

I was just in checking my res for this grow and last night I was using my new ec-3 pen and my ph meter in the res as I have always done. When I did the math on how much nutes I was putting in vs what the ec was going up, it seemed off. So anyway I adjusted to about .640 and left it. Well last night I was doing more math in my head and it didn't seem right so today I checked. Ec in the res was .65ish so about what I had it set for and ph was 5.8. I took a sample of the res in a measuring cup and tested it and it was .970 and ph 5.8.

Anyone have these sort of issues when testing a larger volume vs a small sample? My math tells me that the .970 is much closer to what the tank should be reading from the amount of nutes I added.

I have a cheap ppm meter and i put that in the tank last night and it should be .5 of the ec and it was in the 445-450 range which is what got me thinking in the first place that something was wrong. Today I used this ppm pen and in the tank vs the smaller sample the pen was very close to the same number, just a 20 or so point difference between the two. So that is reasonable.

the res is 65 gallon tank with about 60 gallons in it, maybe slightly less.

Day 22 Update

Mixed emotions on this one. Plants are doing great since last res change but when I went into my room it wasn't as bright as it should be. 1000w over the TD's was out, ran down checked panel, no popped breaker, ran back up and sure enough bulb shit the bed. Figured no biggie I have another, pulled that one out of the box and the ceramic on one of the electrodes was cracked and a few bits were inside the bulb. I didn't feel safe running that one, so I put in a HPS bulb I had, which in the meantime will be ok.

Bulb #1 that blew was used about 1 month old
Bulb #2 with cracked ceramic was just shipped new 1 week ago.

Any thoughts on the MH bulb with the cracked ceramic? Or the HPS at this stage?

I called the company in CA and gonna take 5 days but they are sending me 2 new MH bulbs tomorrow. Just sucks.

Anyway here they are:

Using the HPS for 5 days won't do much in terms of hurting your plants.

Here's some information for reference;

This chart shows you and explains how the different spectrum have different PAR watts and how those are beneficial to the plants.

This chart shows you how the different spectrums effect photosynthesis;

As you can see the HPS has some benefit, but the MH clearly has more - which is why some say CMH is better than HPS and MH bulbs. I believe folks use HPS in flowering to halt vertical growth more so than the impact it has on budding. As well the chlorophyll A&B aren't as beneficial to the fruiting plants as they are to increase vegetative growth.

whatsgoodie2 thanks for the info, I didn't think it was going to hurt them like this info suggest. Obviously just not optimum. Might pay to have them expedited and get things going sooner.
