That's only slightly better today. Yes, you can see the colors, but no, my homemade stuff needs a lot of work!

There's a huge difference between that and this, what it should look like. This is just a regular incandescent.

This is what it looked like through the diffuser/styrofoam.

Yes you can see the spectrum, the image is still flooded with magenta light because my lenses aren't that good. Yet.

More to come! And lets see your spectra - led's are harder to record, as you've seen, but hid and flourescents are cake. I'll also show you what my shitty spectrometer looks like.

Here she blows. Prepare to be underwhelmed.

The only problem is that low grade spectrometers start at around 2K and before you get to lab grade, its 20K and up. Dr Frances is always more than willing to help you with this kind of information and can be reached at www.uvguide.co.uk, just don't tell her its for anything that might be unaproved of in your state/country as she is a real straight shooter. she is a wealth of information and very generious about shareing her knowledge. :)

I know man. Good tools are always expensive, but I did find a general purpose spectroscope with a fiber optic probe and software for 1k... second or third post on the first page. That would solve a few of my problems, but it is prohibitively expensive.

Brilliant thread, grado!! :smokebuds: Gotta spread some rep around before I can get ya again, but here's an IOU :slap:

that is sweet!!!

those kind of parts are available here:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Metrix Create Space in Seattle, WA. They are a rapid prototyping/electronics club and they have vending machines with batteries and microcontrollers... snacks too, but they're secondary to tech.

Check them out and if you're in the area it's well worth a visit. They do all sorts of stuff - had a lock picking class not too long ago. Just cool shit all around.

Great thread! Thanks. ....also a great way to get rid of Kenny G CDs. :D:
