Curious to try topical application of magnesium.
Mag Chloride vs. Mag Sulphate, got it.

Common ratio for Magnesium Oil I've found is 1:1 using the Chloride.
Also, all info sez to use distilled and or filtered water. Right.

So being the good lil' urban farmer I have ready supplies of Epsom Salt. What the hey...
Use tap water, whatever...

1 cup tap water, heat to slight boil.
remove from heat and dissolve 1 cup Epsom.

Let cool.

Apply to shoulders and back.

While the relief felt came within a very few minutes it also came with a price.
My skin dried pretty darn fast and once it was dry my back was coated with the Epsom.
Felt like I were covered in fine sand. No rash or or or but damn skippy it ITCHED!

Took a shower all was right with the world the soothing effects were still with me and it is obvious to me that a 1:1 ratio of Epsom and tap water is way too much epsom.
Shoot, the next morning there were several good sized crystals formed in the jar.

So, whew, after all that for a lead-in, the question.
When using Magnesium Chloride for to make the Mag Oil, does the magnesium stay in solution at a 1:1 ratio?
Is there any itchy-ass crystal left on the skin when the "oil" drys or does the magnesium all get absorbed.

Signed,
One Itchy OTD

Like I said in OP, in my silly case the itch was from the layer of crystal left behind. LOL, no getting used to that!

I s'pose the best thing for me to do would also be the obvious and simple thing.
That being get MgCl flakes and FOLLOW directions using distilled water. Leave the MgSO fer the bathtub soakin' (-:

The epsom does not have the lasting effects of the MgCl as it passes quickly through the body.
Also more noticeable effect with bathing...

Well then, Black Friday at the health food store it will be then.
Aside from the MgSO coming out of solution so easily, when concentrated it does have a profound effect on me wrists, back, shoulders.
Hopefully I'll be able to make a comparison tomorrow, provided LifeSource carries MgCl.

No bath for me though, hate baths. Lookin' to just rub it in rub it in (-;

Hey @olderthandirt did you get the magnesium chloride?
Epsom salts are not as effective that's for sure...
Many people don't like the salt residue or the tingling/itch that magnesium chloride can give you the first few times you use it.
Add some glycerin to the Magnesium Oil when you make it (after it cools) and that usually eliminates the irritation.

If your into making your own salves or rubs, mag oil can be put in those too.
I like coconut oil and cocoa butter but shea butter and other oils work too. Add beeswax and when it is cool, whip magnesium oil into it.
Magnesium oil in the cannabis rubs work well too.

I'll be making a new batch of my Medi rub in the next few days. I'll try to take pictures and get a recipe on.
You can check out my store on Etsy Everessence Topicals

Hey @Root
I did pick up some MgCl, Ancient Minerals through Amazon was the best price I found.
The initial "oil", solution, I made with it is a ratio of 0.5:1 .
I believe I'll need to increase it to the 1:1 cited most places but at this strength it still eases the pain in my wrists and shoulders reasonably well.
With price as a driving factor I'll continue using Epsom Salts for bath soaks, yes, I cleaned the tub and started soaking, but the MgCl has already proven the way to go for immediate relief applied as "oil".

I've been wanting to try me hand at making my own salves so I'll remain on the look out for any recipes or instructions you and others share! Thank you (-:

Just took a look at your Etsy store. Story behind "Grandma Roody"?

Hi @olderthandirt
Grandma Roody is a pseueo-representative for Everessence Topicals and the Med section. I am said to have mystical powers, but I confess that most of it is just because I show up just when it is needed. I have helped gather much information for, under @Mossy's direction, a lot of the medical section.

So you must have come for a reason, let's see if we can get some results for you.

So Root and Grandma Roody are two individuals?

Color me confused and ya needn't even stay within the lines to do so (-;

As to mystical powers well, showin' up when needed is perty mystical shtuff (-:

Surprise surprise, I'm finding good results already just by following directions.
Little things like using distilled water rather than tap water and MgCl instead of MgSO when making up some Mag Oil.
LOL, little things (-:

Next up is a the need for a handholding kind of tutorial on making a salve. Things like how to melt bees wax. When told to whip up a mixture, what whip to use.
The kind of things that are so obvious to some but late to the game ol' farts like me keep stumbling on.

Pleased ta meetcha!

All I can say is wow.

Using MgCl and distilled water for the "oil" I've seen very good results. Shoulder and wrist pains are gone fast after a light spritz from the ol' spritz bottle.
Really impressed until last night that is.

SWMBO has been having a time of it with her legs, night cramps, and her knees just flat out aching.
I've been at her to do all the shtuff for leg cramps. Simple stretching, increase water intake, epsom baths and so on.
Moderate relief from the cramps but last night she sez she wants to use some o' the canna salve I have on her knees.
So I sez sure but howsabout you try the Mag Oil first.

2 or 3 spritz's on both the front and the back o' each knee and before she had her britches pulled back up her jaw was on the floor.
Painful ache in her knees was as close to gone as one could hope for! And in just a matter of a minute or so!

Impressive addition to the pain management arsenal. And it's cheap. And it's simple.

That's all (-:
