Didn'tfound any heat sink at a decent price in Canada so i'm making my own.
Light strips are 1.5"wide so i got 2 aluminum channel 1x3/4".
Deciding if i should put them tight agaist each other or split them a hair with a shim to create a small gap in between them.
What does AFN Mcgyvers think?
Strips will be heat tape to the flat 2" wide surface.
Also,if decide to don't gap them, should i put heat tape between the 2 like in the pic

If you're not totally happy with those aluminum pieces, Super Bright Leds website sells aluminum channels specifically for led strips.

For those thinking i'm cheap, you're right...but for the light i'm building,4x4 505 watts, real heatsink from Heatsink.USA shipped to Canada is 306$ CDN with a chance of paying taxes (15%) and custom duties...
I'll be directing a 6'' oscillating fan right at the aluminum channels too...but i won't lie,i'm a bit paranoid by frying new LEDs. :yoinks:

I don't have any advice for you, but thought I would just offer this:
I Googled "make your own heat sink" and there are lots of hits.

So I've ran both builds I did the 280mm strips were on 18/6 for a bit over a year running 14 @ 200w and 700ma and my 22in build is 12 or 14 @ 450w and 1400ma so straight up maxed out and I love them they run cooler then the cob setups I've had and a better spread than anything I've used, as for to gap or not that's totally depending on how hard you want to drive them so for an example if there able to do 1400ma but you decide to run them @ 700ma they won't get as hot ect that's generally how I look @ things so far ive had no issues but with dimmers they seem to suck so by a real good 1 of those or by a driver like the 1 I have that's built in works way better and 0 issues so far. Also only reason I did the sinks on the Samsung's was bc I was running them @ the max wattage and ma so to be extra safe but honestly probly not needed.

Thanks for the very good infos @Fitzy ! Got a Meanwell HLG 480 48A to power those 4 amsung SI-B8UZ91B20WW 3500k 44'' long.
All the built is from @damien50 link in his signature...
That's it,i'm sticking those babies!!!
I wouldn't put tape unless it's needed hold on led aluminum to aluminum should be fine now spacing it wouldn't hurt but I don't think it would make a big difference now if you searade the edges it would help but that's about it I would think and even that won't be crazy difference maybe others have more experience but that's mine so far.

Ya,i think i'll be fine with a small fan blowing on it and 2 X 4'' exaust fans pulling heat out of a 4X8.Other lights in the tent will be a SP250 and 2 older 600w cheap blurples. Time to smoke a big fat one ! Wiring tomorrow!
Thanks for the help everyone!
