That's why I was looking at the citizen leds also. They're priced cheap and you can hit that 50% efficiency sweet spot for a lower overall cost per watt to Cree.

3590s hit 50% at higher wattages though(75w) at about $50 each chip(with holder etc), you pay $.66 per watt. 56% at the 50w each kits, $1/w. 50% increase in cost for a 12% increase in efficiency. I figure it's not economical as I can build cheaper now, and upgrade to more efficient leds later. (Presumably at a cheaper cost)

It's definitely top end though, and will probably still be at 90% output 4-5 years from now. I also think more commercial cob fixtures should be hitting the market. They're not difficult to manufacture, less components means less work, and in bulk I could easily see components being bought for under $1/w overall build at our 50% efficiency point. $2-2.5/w is what I expect commercial fixtures to retail for.
