I gave it a 4, but that’s because I’ve only ever grown in soil. I dropped one star as I have to pay for good “dirt” lol, stuff I can dig up for free where I live is basically solid clay!
dirt projects are fun too. if you have bad soil you can put down wood chips. they will improve quality of the soil over time and help keep it from becoming compacted. gets me all excited about the future.
hegelkulture can be done also if you have logs/limbs laying around.
I prefer the natural so soil “dirt” gets 4/5 so many different variations. I can go to local river flats and dig some of the blackest I’ve seen, or mix the compost... or buy local. Hydro will grow big and fast but the flavor and aroma of soil grown can’t be beat!
Living soil is 5* for me!
I need to go back and grab some of my soil from my "garden" spot(just over 2ac) on my old farm.
After over 20 years of organic gardening, the light sandy soil was transformed to a black fluffy soil full of worms doing their thing.
It's just a no brainer for me.
