Dialing In MEGA CROP for Auto's

Good news! the TPS Organic Cal-Mag has only a small amount of Nitrogen 1.5 PPM per ml/G , 12 PPM of Calcium and 22 PPM of Magnesium.
This will make it much easier to have low N in late flower with sufficient Calcium:woohoo1:. Download the new Spreadsheet here:

I have been having trouble finding a good calmag product which has minimal amounts of Nitrogen and my search so far has not been the best, but I've settled on Terra Aquatica / GHE Calcium Magnesium.

However I do wonder if it would be better to purchase them in seperate form?

For example, you can buy 'Canna Mono Calicum' and 'Canna Mono Magnesium', then mix at your desired ratio?

This would hopefully remove the Nitrogen completely.

I would do this myself but not confident in figuring out how much of each I would need for a good balance.

 I have been trying my best to limit the number of products and not going from scratch.

The amount of N in most cal/mag is so smalls as to be insignificant. @ 2% that mean of a 100 ppm batch my cal/mag added to a solution 2 ppms are N. Unless you are over feeding to begin with, this amount is meaningless. And if your using more than 100 ppms of cal/mag, your using too much!

I think you may have got your calculations wrong..not 100% sure but, when looking at the bottle I have it's showing as calcium 4%, magnesium 1% , so 2% Nitrogen would be half the amount of calcium and double the magnesium, unless I've misunderstood.

Either way, to say "if you're using more than 100ppms of cal/mag you're using too much" is very much a sweeping statement, because a grower could be using RO water, and could need more than that to get in the 'ideal range' in my opinion.

Most nutrient lines are giving more than enough Nitrogen, so a small increase of Nitrogen in the calmag each fertigation can lead to clawing and obvious signs of N toxicity..this can lead to other issues as we know.

I've been using RO water for 7 years. When I grow organic, I used 90-100 ppms of cal/mag. When I grow with Megacrop, I use none and haven't since V2 came out. I grow autos and photos, and have grown at least 100 strains. I think I have a little experience regarding this subject. The problem with calmag is not the N in it, it is the over use of it making the Calcium the actual cause of problems, if your soil or solution already has Cal in it. How often do you see people react to a, say, spotted leaf issue and they automatically assume it's a Mg deficiency? It's one of the top 5 errors growers make.

I will respectfully agree to disagree with you on this one, in my own experiences using 90-100ppms of calmag using 100% RO water is simply not enough, on top of which, and depending on the calmag I've used (some have even more nitrogen percentages), nitrogen problems have shown up unfortunately. Mg def shows up much differently to a Calcium def in my opinion, and there is a quite obvious distinction.

Perhaps our different enviroments are the differing factor, either way I know the Nitrogen in calmag can cause issues for many growers, and I'm happy to read @Mañ'O'Green found a calmag with a low Nitrogen, which is what I was responding to.

I'm not going to start throwing numbers around to how many years I've grown for, as it doesn't mean much because it's been in my own personal enviroments that can be massively different to other growers. I'm also still learning, I don't think we ever stop...and it's very true that the more I learn the more I realise I have so much more to learn.

I do agree though some growers add too much calmag and this can cause just as many issues.

Thank you for the interesting discussion though, and peace bud.
