Extraction Decarbing

It has worked okay but I'm looking for a more controlled temp environment and less smell so I found the "Nova" decarboxilator.
:pass:I tried so many methods to decarb and Turkey Roasting Bags were the low tech winner for reducing the odour.
Like you, I had been eyeing the Nova and Magical Butter Machine for a while. They do what they promise to do, but I couldn't justify paying high prices for something that is so easy to do manually.

Then I read AFN members discussing using Sous Vide for decarbing and extracting and I love to experiment so decided to give it a go.
Like the Nova, it was odourless, and the weed smelled and tasted better than other methods. Kind of nutty with a bit of terps.

In my second experiment I used the same bag to decarb and infuse some old trim into butter. After decarb I reopened it, added the fat, resealed it and put it back into the sous vide. Smell was not bad and only lasted a minute. No babysitting required. I took it out a couple of times to shake it up.

Once done, I cut open the bag's corner and let it flow through a filter right into my mould. Smell was very mild and ended when I covered my mould and put it in the fridge. I only had to wash a strainer, spatula and measuring spoon, and throw the baggie and filter out.

While the MBM and Nova look like great appliances, for a third of the cost of either devices it was a good choice for a cheapskate alchemist like me.

I live in an apartment and cook edibles all the time.
The decarb process is normally the stinkiest.
Use one of these. Decarbs your weed and makes butter. Also keeps the smell down a ton.
I went with this guy.
There’s a handful all about the same size and function on Amazon.

I also recommend the butter molds. They have nice dosage lines that they mold into your butter (or coconut oil). There a ton of molds on Amazon as well.
