You bet. To each their own. I find that I like it more wide open and some people I know prefer it more closed. Everybody will find their unique setting and change it up whenever they feel like it even while you're inhaling you can adjust the pressure.
 
It's one of those things where when you try it you understand completely. The ability to change the pressure coming through is quite remarkable. You can get just as much effect by having the device on a slower air setting because the suction is now increased. There are so many different variables it's always fun to discover.
Is the "adjustment" as easy as turning the stem/mouthpiece ?? If i was passing my last bowl of Golden Goat to the bogart on my right, could i limit his iron lung?? ( not that i would, jus asking)

isn't everything an alloy?

It would seem that titanium is the best metal to use for the industry because it withstands Heat and it's extremely tough. Steel and titanium seem to be the medically accepted materials whereas aluminum's and other metals may give off chemicals when being used.
