I did post about this exact thing. The laws of hydraulics states that and interface of two dissimilar materials will halt the flow at the interface until gravity is overcome. so the dryer the material, the more the interface resists transfer. So if you run auto pots and think your uptake is not as good as it should be, this is why. My coco no longer drys out in the top 3 inches. pots do not and should not use anything other than the soil/coco, etc.

Sounds like a @pop22 myth busters topic!

I have a question you may be able to answer . I just installed 2 cob lights . I noticed an increase in temp over my leds . Is the temp related to the brightness in any way . Like the higher the brightness the more energy ending in higher temp .

The COB's should be doing a more efficient job of converting electricity to light, so should produce less heat per watt at the LED. Is the overall wattage of the light rig higher than that of the LED's? For example, if the COB's are 70 watts each, for a total of 140 and the old LED was only 100 watts total, that could account for it. The efficiency of the driver itself is another thing to look at. Most of the heat on my rig feels like it's actually at the driver.

any fellow hydro heads got any top tips for lowering res temps? my nfts are both running at 31*C with only half my lights on. im gonna be fucked in a few weeks once its all on and 10* hotter outside. didnt have any heat issues last time till final 2 weeks. this is doing my nut in already lol. @Bailey @witchyhour @derek420colorado @KushNFT @joke and anyone else i cant remember or havent realised does hydro please help. i dont want my babies to die lol : (

alright AFN gang... got me some perlite, coco and new soil mix! Those two new babies are in for a real treat this run... I cut teh bottom outta the 4oz starter cup.. doubled it up with one that wasn't cut.... and gonna just plant that.... Like i see some peeps do! and now I can attempt that 1/3 Perlite/Coco/Soil
:size: right?

convention LED growlights are usually way over rated as to power consumption. Example: a"400" watt LED light actually runs at 180 watts. at 25% efficiency, produces 135 watts of heat throught the heatsink and 25% light, which releases its enrgy in the plant as heat also. With cobs, your looking at 45/55, so less as waste heat and more applied to the plant. All that light striking the plant creates heat!

This is also why a lot of DIY guys, myself included, mount the driver outside the tent, they put out heat also!

Insulate your res! The water line to the pot(s) also. I use to put a frozen, 2 liter bottle in the res. With insulation, I could go about 24 hours between bottles by keeping the solution between 67F ( 19.4C ) and 72F ( 22.2C ). I used Reflectix, looks like bubblewrap encased in aluminum foil

Well feck me lol.
Might be why one of my hybrid hempy buckets failed. Watered top and it didn't drain proper and wicked more up to stagnant soil water. Hmm. The thinking gears are turning again.

Air Pump intake near the ac "if possible" or fans on your pumps. Keep them cool as possible. They get hot and pump hot air. Just my little tiny exp with my pumps and temps
