I was a licensed pyrotechnician for 15 years and bad advice like that is why you read about Honey Oil (the media calls RSO Honey Oil) explosions every day. Ethanol can be explosive at room temperature? NO OPEN FLAMES OR IGNITION SOURCES.
The fact that someone has done it before does not equate to safe.

we are talking very low quantities hot water bathed, with exhaust range hood overhead. Is it that unsafe? Obviously you are far more experienced than i am (and several other people i know have made tincutre with a gas stovetop)
