Because so-called "poverty levels" are an arbitrary figure pulled out of the air by others to further their own agenda. You just have to look at the criteria, and look at the expectations people have, plus other factors like their own fiscal mismanagement.

By certain definitions, I am in poverty yet can pay bills, have computers and games consoles and more than enough food to eat. So am I "in poverty"? No, not by any realistic standard thanks to a roof over my head, enough warmth in the house and 3 squares daily.

But according to the "experts", I'm at the same level as someone in a small village in sub-Saharan Africa without food or fresh water.

And that means questions should be asked regarding those making claims regarding "poverty"

It's quite simple really, the "elite" get dumber and dumber as their lives get easier and easier. Over a few generations the grandkids become completely self absorbed, they isolate with other elite, then they start to hate everyone thinking people just want their money.... Then we get late stage capitalism.. Where we are now. All the hates and fears that have been ignored are surfacing in a last attempt to regain the stability of the past. This will fail, and our society will have a period of time that is very hard. This usually culminates in either a return to Democratic ideals or the state will fall. The US has been through this several times. First the American Revolution, then the abolitionists movement and Civil War that ended slavery. We had it somewhat easier for the Civil Rights era, but we are here again. We have faced this before.

Sorry, but without going into a massive post the only thing that can be said is that some history needs to be read or learned as you do have some "facts" wrong there

I suggest you read Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies, two perfect examples of why those who claim to be able to create utopian societies are the ones who will be the first to abuse the notion of such a thing.
