Thanks! My saltwater reef tank hobby definitely gave me a bit of a head start when I got started growing... just a few things off the top of my head
  • PH pen
  • TDS pen
  • RODI filter
  • syringes/airline for measuring nutes
  • 4 bulb 2ft T5 fixture
  • previous experience building DIY LED for Reef Tanks (RapidLED Cree setup) --made the decision to go Samsung F strips very easy
There's probably more... It's amazing how much the two hobbies have in common... Dosing calcium and magnesium for coral growth (I have dosing pumps for this)...
Not to mention relaxing in front of the tank looking at all the glowing corals and brightly coloured fish when stoned...

Saltwater reef tanks aren't as hard as people make them out to be. If you can succeed in this hobby, you'll succeed in that one.

I was in the salt water hobby for a long time, 150 gallon mixed reef. Then a big hurricane took 4-5 thousand dollars worth of corals, fish and equipment...miss it at times, but not some of the head aches.
you are right ..lots of similarities, everything from a learning curve, but once you got the basics, you just fine tune things...like this hobby. You develop a keen eye to things just dont look right and knowing how to avoid disaster....and of course the addiction.
