[Savage Garden]

It's a good day at casa GG... I got a bundle of seeds, plants and gardening stuff in the mail yesterday.

All heirloom, non GMO, open polinated varieties. (except the apples, not Heirloom.)

acer palmatum disectum red select maple

4 types columnar apples
Cornus Kousa dogwood
Pinus pendula weeping red pine
cedrus libani, cedar of lebanon
Uva Ursi bearberry
wintergreen, cherry berry
comfrey, yarrow, sage, lavender, basil, rosemary, thyme, wormwood, wood bettony, echinacia... other herbs
sambucas, 3 types. Mexican, blue, and american elderberry


It's going to be a fun time today getting some of those seeds soaking and preparing beds.
Sunny and 75 degrees. Hell Ya.

I noticed the Cedar and it reminded me of the easy way to identify the different types

Cedrus Atlanticus has Ascending branches
Cedurs Lebanii has Lateral branches
Cedrus Deodora has Descending branches


I would be happy if that little gardening worm sticks in the Revs mind forever.......

I strip leaves initially to stunt growth then later to expose bud sites. If i lay a branch horizontal i remove every leaf on top of the branch

I will remember that. In fact, I'll pass on that little tid-bit.

I still don't know what I'm going to do with the cedars. They get big. I'll probably get a farmers market booth and try to sell them. I got 50 seeds and I'm just doing ten to start. They sent two seedlings also. I'm going to grow one out and bonsai the other.

Every so often this hibiscus blesses us with a flower or two . They don't last very long and there's never any more than 2 or 3 and then that's the last for another year or longer depending on her mood . She's such a delicate looking thing but as tough as boot leather and I prune her when she gets unruly but she bounces back every time . My mom had her for years and I inherited her when my mom passed .

I don't consider thinning defoliation. I always start at the bottom, remove any fans facing the stalk first and work my up through the center of the canopy. Theres only two reasons to remove healthy fans. To get more light to the buds, or to get more air flow through the canopy. I leave anything alone that doesn't do one of those two things.

Lovin your style..because, I seem to be following it...lol and you're right....."Thinning" is a more suitable term to what we do.

I have this barren piece of property available to me to do whatever ( well within reason ) I like but I just don't have the energy or the inclination when you don't own it .

You know I had the very same thought !! But I was going to sell cannabis seedlings out of the garage but the landlady wasn't keen .
