Hello, everyone. I have a 3 x 3 (36 x 36 x 72 to be exact) grow space and will be upgrading from a 250 watt HPS to a 1200 watt cob led (it will be drawing 360 watts from the wall).

I know LED lights give off less heat than an HPS but what can I expect heat wise from this upgrade?

Thanks

Actually your LED will be hotter than HPS, and your tent will be also hotter. 360W vs. 250W.

A 3x3 is easily covered with 200 watts of cobs,

Anytime your given "wall watts" but it is described as much more... be cautious.

I didn't set the light and tent up yet but the temperature in the room is low 70's during the day and mid to high 60's at night.

The manufacturer said the 1200w is recommended for 4 x 4 for veg and 3 x 3 for flower

Watts are watts, they all have to go out with the heat, more watts, more heat.
Problem is you were underpowered to start, 450w of HPS is recommended for flowering in a 3x3, so a recommended 360 sounds about the right size, but there will be an additional 110w of heat to get rid of over your 250w.

Benefit of led, your room temps can come up, no infra red, so room temps high 70s to low 80s are fine.

Yeah I knew I was underpowered from the start. I was planning on getting a 400 watt HPS for this tent but decided on the 1200w cob. Is this virtually the equivalent of light? I'm just concerned I went overboard and should have went for the 800w model (240 watts from the wall)

Hard to say honestly, anytime someone tries to tell me something is just like something... I expect a scam. Some of the LEDs out there (a lot) will grow plants, but poorly, lighting companies jumping on trying to make money off the canna.
So, for regular reliable citizen, cree, or Samsung diodes yes, for the cheap chicom leds... your guess...

I'm running 450w of DIY cobs in a 4x4, and would say it is equivalent to the 1000w hps I used to run.
