i can't really say whether the co2 system i use helps or not but
the diy system is a 5 gallon bucket with a food grade lid that seals good
we use 5 pounds of regular sugar and 3 packets of active dry yeast a week
this thing bubbles a steady 2 bubbles per second.
i have the exhaust fan pulling through the cool tube light fixture form an inlet that is outside the grow area
that way i never suck any of the co2 out
i use 2 circulating fans to keep the air moving and keep things under 90f most of the time
my tent is only 2ft x 4ft x 5ft so maybe the amount of co2 is overkill
but sugar and yeast is pretty cheap so if it helps them grow better
i figure we might as well give them an organic boost.
my lights run 18/6 so i guess we waste alot of co2 during the dark cycle but i dont have any controls for that yet.
