I bought one Jack Herer seed to try. I was planning on cloning it but never got around to it. It turned out to be a top five lifetime experience for me, which fills me with regret because I will never be able to grow that exact plant again. So I decided to do something I've been wanting to try.

I'm going to try to create a clone tree. I have some Afghan Mix landrace seeds from RealSeeds that I suspect aren't that special in the smoke department.

I grew one out once just to see its growth habit though, then tossed it because I needed the space. It's sturdy and low - a perfect Afghan from a cultivation and training perspective. It's a tough plant that will make a great 8-node manifold.

Once the manifold is created I'm going to start grafting keeper clones onto it. It'll be months before I can try the first graft but will occasionally make entries showing how it's doing because it's a beautiful plant.

I put two seeds in a four-inch pot, watered it and covered it with a plastic baggy. No soaking. Whichever seed I like the most will be my new rootstock.

It doesn't look that hard. https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-how-to-graft-cannabis-and-grow-multiple-strains-on-1-plant-n872

Here s/he is, healthy. She had a slow start but is about to take off.

Thank you! I pulled off the last project I tried but this one seems pretty hard. I made a cross and have a bunch of seeds to grow out. Each seed will (hopefully) be grafted onto this rootstock. I'm going to take clones just in case the graft doesn't take but I have an idea in mind that should make success a little easier.

Are you going to grow it in a small container, or otherwise try to minimize its total size?
I think I'll keep it in a 4 liter container. If I go smaller I'll have trouble keeping it happy. 2 liter would be better but dries out too quickly where I live and eventually I'm watering it every single day.

This is day 22, not that it matters...

I up-potted from the 4" pot to one liter today. I've taken great pains to avoid plucking any leaves or disturbing it in any way, because I want a squat plant with thick branches. Here s/he is in all "their" glory.

It took 2.5 months to create a rootstock ready to receive scions. Here's how the rootstock looked an hour ago (I keep trying to say "she," but I'm pretty sure it's a "he")....

And after 15 minutes of stem-tying and defoliating, he looks like this:

... ready to receive scions! I don't have anything to clone right now, but the next time I do I'll try it and log my attempts. Right now, I need to get on Amazon and get some razor blades...
