Hi all, just a quick question.

Plants usually grow their roots during dark period. If starting on 24/0 of light does this lead to poor root development?
My thinking is start for first three weeks at 18/6, good enough dark period to get a good root ball started and plenty of healthy root development, then switch to 24/0 from then on, Around beginning of stretch, giving as much light as possible during that stage till the end of plants life.

Anybody tried something like this?

no no, cannabis needs no dark period for anything but to encourage it to flower. With autos this need to provide darkness to trigger flowering is unneeded. You can google cannabis c3 or c4 type plant and they will dismiss all the myths about darkness. So, unless you have a big grow with a big electric bill always run 24/0 from germ to harvest. Check out some of that produce they grow in the land of the midnight sun.

ive always had good root development with autos under 24/0, have also tried other schedules and noticed they slow down a bit compared to 24/0 growth.
but I also find that some auto strains are full of phenotypes anyway and do what they want to do regardless of light schedule, especially during the rooting stage.

I run my auto's on 20/4 or 24/0. I wouldn't even think about running a 18/6 schedule as there is ZERO need. On a 24/0 schedule the roots of my plants in my simple DWC hydro setup will grow up to 4 inches in length in 24hrs. So explain why I need to give them a dark period?

I'm in favor of constant light. I have a photoperiod (was suppose to be an auto) plant that wouldn't flower and after a while at 12/12 to jump start it, It was back to constant light.

Thanks guys.
I was always of the under standing they needed a dark period for good root growth, but thanks for clearing that up :)
24/0 it is from now
