Hey fellow Canuks, figured we needed a thread to discuss our options in Canada for supplies considering they seem to be quite a bit different than those south of the border. I'll start it off with some coco I recently bought from home hardware.

https://www.homehardware.ca/en/5kg-beyond-peat-coir-coconut-fibre-soil-supplement/p/5053990

I soaked it in a meagacrop and cal/mag solution and popped 4 beans last weekend. It took twice as much water as the instructions said and within 3 days i had a few weeds pop. They looked like clover. Thinking a rinse might have been a good idea but we shall see. Anyone else have experience with this cheapo coco?

Don't know why they call that a hydro mix when its pretty much a full blown soil lol Was going to pick up a bag of that myself and give her a whirl but was put off when seen that its full of gnats :nono: Theres a member i seen here using it and going through that problem now.

Looks to be a kick ass organic mix though and sold all around the big stores in canada so easier to source unlike ocean forest etc.

peat moss, coco coir, aged softwood bark, perlite, worm castings, bat guano, feather meal, bone meal, blood meal, sulfate of potash, kelp meal, and volcanic ash.

Those goddam gnats. They are the main reason I went from soil to coco. That and coco is just so much cheaper and easier. So far. Might use some of that hydro mix in an outdoor auto grow this summer. Maybe mix it with the other bags of soil and additives I didnt use. I wonder if gnats are as big a problem outdoors as they ended up being in my tent.

I've been using the block coco from HH for years. I've never seen any weeds pop up from it and never I've rinsed it, I've had zero problems with it. I like that it's sliced into 4 pieces so you don't have to soak a whole block if you don't want to.

I'm using the same stuff from home hardware and peavy mart. The stuff from peavy is hydroponic grade it holds water better longer at first i didnt like it but now its ok. I bought some expensive soil Peavy Mart. Nice stuff name escapes me. Mixed it about 1 To 3 coco. Augment with fresh worm castings and bat guano. Use fish meal, Epsom salt, a bit of dolimite lime. And anything elects organic that strikes my fancy. I'm into Jadam Korean natural farming. I fill a pail of water. Take a hand full of leaf mold in a bag. Now boil 2 potatoes till soft, place in bag and mush. That is the food for the microbes and fungi depending on temp it will be ready in 4-5 day. Water plants you can dilute 30 to 1. This will inoculate your soil with forest microbes and fungi, these work with the plant to supply nutrients. The left over brew I then take green grass weeds and leaves, place in bucket and it will render down to something that smells like a cows ass. Dilute 4 tbsp spoon per gal water your plants. You can add cal phos, or cal, molasses, kelp meal extract. Every few watering I make worm guano tea. I don't use bags when I make tea but I make sure I deliver a goodly dose of worm dirt with the tea juice to the plant at watering. Every once in a while I use clean fresh water alone. If I remember I'll try and melt a bucket of snow see if they like it. That's my life story for now check out my thread on breading, watch the fun filled antics as I bumble my way along breading my own strains.

Just noticed it's by Root not sure if u care but I think that stuff is made by CIL. I'm not sure if they are known for organics. I figure if you don't put it in u won't have to flush it out.

If you're talking about that hydro mix the maker is actually owned by Scotts Miracle-Gro Company lol

Hawthorne Gardening Company
Hawthorne Gardening Company, formed in October 2014, is The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company's subsidiary for cannabis growers and one of the first major investments by a major United States corporation in the cannabis industry

Scotts also now owns - Botanicare - General Hydroponics - Can Filters etc
