cal/mag probs

I want to thank muddy after 3 apps of amonia/water the girls are greening up fine. I need to get a ph pen and start watching that better. My water sources are from well or lake witch would yall use??? My only concern with the well water is the lime build up would cause acidy water. I am giving first feeding today of Grow big.

Lime will make the water basic not acidic, just so you know; I would go with the lake after PHing both, the lake will most likely have better aeration and lighting and therefore better quality of water; but might as well try both with a PH tester and PPM meter...

What do you guys recommend as far as ammonia and water solution for this? What is your source for the ammonia? Household cleaner?

    lake water if you can
depending on where you live(like me) well water can have way toooo many issues ppm is the main
where i live it fluctuates and to cut down alittle on cal/mag costs and r/o water i use about 10 percent well and the rest r/o
i like to collect rain and usually do but where i live this year we are in a heavy droubt and rain hasn't really been around till lately
but the lake water is collected rain water and not filtered through the bedrock layer down to the table where your well will collect and have all the alkalinity issues because of the filteration through the rocky layers
we have awesome soil here but deep it gets very limestone dense so our well water is very hard
could have some microscopic issues from the lake water nad introduce things like kinds of algea
soem things could be good some could be bad really would have to have it tested
at the very least i would buy a hand water filter to reduce the levels for sure or you will have nutrient issues later and if you do swing it enough for a harvest i promise the end harvest will be much smaller dealing w/ theese issues

your question about the ammonia is yes not to step on muddy's toes but most dollar general or grocery store still carry pure ammonia for floor stripping

    it could look like this
normlly i wouldn't get the lemon scented but this is the only one they had at the time w/ a surfactant added to it
and the scent isn't really a big deal i only use it in veg for a quick pick me up when needed a little extra
if one w/ a surfactant is used go easy on application because plant absorbs better when it is used so it is easier to give toxifying levels

lime causes basic action... not acidic... lime wont go over 7.0 ph I'm told.

hope these help mate... no worries... many people mix up ph things until they've really had a hands-on experience with it... which you are getting now... :smokeit:

I'm sure muddy doesnt mind you helping him with the workload mate... :smoke:

also when well water is mentioned i hope you ment a line that doesn't go through a water softening unit that you put bags of salt into
this is a no no to use on plants if the answer was yes
i often forget when talking to people i have a line going off the main from the well that bypasses the water softener looked a few models to replace the unit to an electric one in the future to ease the r/o system load wooking to install

good call sativa... important clarification point

@Dreamteam88

btw... dunno if anyone tipped you on cal/ mag.... once they start flowering... 1x a week hit em with 1 tsp molasses and 1 tsp epsom salts to a gallon of water... that takes care of cal / mag for ultra-cheap

Thanks for the input fellas I suppose I got some studying to do with the PH stuff. @ staivalover the well water would come from infront of water softner/filter. I have decided to use the lake water for now I got a ph pen coming and will check witch is best.@ JM thanks for the links thats some good info. I really never thought about how nutriet probs really f@-k up autos with there short life span.
