Hello! Super excited to start contributing (already checked in with the live intro section)

So I am looking to start my breeding adventure soon, and I wanted to see if I am on the right track with my thinking. I have a pack of Buddha Syrup regs, As well as a pack Stone Dragon regs. I was thinking about eventually crossing them with some commercial auto fem strains and hopefully creating some bud I like to smoke and entertain my inner science nerd.

Before this all kicks off I feel I need more toys to play with than just 2 pack of regs. My thought was to run 1 pack at a time and do a semi open pollination by picking the 2 best males and polenate the remaining ladies randomly to create the most seeds possible with decent diversity (will be keeping good notes as I go). I will also try to save some pollen. Am I on the right track that this should give me a decent gene pool to start playing with? Or does anybody have any guidance on where to jump off?

Sounds like a solid plan. That's what I would do, open pollinate each pack with 1 or 2 Males depending on the rstios. And cross to whatever females. You'll end up with essentially a couple hundred reg seeds of those same genetics.

I'm doing the same this as you. I'll be saving a male from my current run of MIS to breed with the fem autos I have in lieu of silver treatment. I'm recreating the wheel I guess as automazar is already a thing but I'm cheap and I've already got the genetics, and don't mind putting in the grows to achieve full auto on my own. I guess the first generation of semi autos finish flowering extra early too so will have a great use as well for those seeds as outdoor grows.

Don't leave your boys in the grow space, let them flower separately (even a small LED screw in bulb will be sufficient to keep them going) anyway just pull them out when you first notice balls and keep them separate. Once your girls start flowering pollinate a branch. This way you only get a few hundred seeds, not thousands, they all mature at the same time and you have plenty of bud without needing to pick out seed to smoke too.
