Hey guys back again. :tiphat:
I wondered if you knowledgeable people on here can help me with some breeding Q's. I have always grow photo period and can tell you just about anything about them but, Auto's are new to me.
Basically I want to produce my own seed. I have the space and ability but lacking in a couple of areas regarding 'How to'
First, let's suppose I have plant 'A' and Plant 'B' both of the same species or strain, (at the moment I'm leaning towards Lowryder Diesel Ryder) but that is not important.
Out of several plants that I'll grow I will select a Male and Female that suit my particular needs, for example short and bushy, strongest growth etc.etc.
We'll take the pollen from the Male and fertilise the Female. Easy so far.
The Female produces seed and I'm happy.
Now, next is where I get a bit lost.
I will end up with an f1 hybrid and I assume that these seeds will have attributes from both parents. ( Please correct me if I'm wrong ).
If I now plant these f1 seeds and again go through the breeding process of selecting a strong Male and Female and then these plants produce seed I will end up with f2.
And so on repeatedly.
Questions:
1. How can I ensure that with all this continual breeding that I end up with plants that are strong and true to my original first breeding. ( I have read somewhere that if you continue this way f1, f2, f3, etc. etc. that the plants will slowly degrade over time, again please correct me if I am wrong ).
2. At what stage during my first breeding, (the A and B Male and Female I first chose ) do I fertilise the Female with the Male Pollen. Is it when the hairs first start to show or when the buds are full and and bursting.
3. How long after fertilisation do I leave the Female plant to produce seed, is there a ball park time or just when the plant starts to wither and die.
4. For a Female to produce seed how much does it lengthen the plants life. For a typical seedless plant she lives roughly 6 to 8 weeks depending on strain but what about a Female that is producing seed.
5. I have read that the best way to maintain a strain is to back breed with an original, if that is correct how does it work. Do I keep some of my first seeds produced from my original A and B plant and breed my current batch of seed with them.
Sorry for so many questions guys, I just want things clear in my own mind.
Thank you for your help and response.
Always appreciated.
