Great news! My plant is too big and such a pain in the ass to move out of the tent to do res changes and add backs! I've buckled and gone the route of the RDWC. Added my extra cooler as a remote/control res. I have 3/4" tubing running between the two coolers, as passive exchange, and 1/2" tube with a submersible water pump in the control . The 1/2" tube brings water to my growing bucket where I used a cork to block the end and cut a small hole in the tube to make the water spray with some pressure. It agitates the surface very well and the restriction prevents the pump from over pumping and flooding one bucket.
Ill post pics of the setup it's pretty cool I think you guys will like.
One thing leads to another. I was using a submersible pump but it warmed the res so I got one I could use inline. It was a rated higher gph but because it has to pull water up its about as strong as the baby sub one. And it leaks from in the intake manifold if I put any resistance on the outlet to control flow. It's an active aqua 160..I'm considering switching to another brand or maybe silicone the manifold.
Well I got a new pump, traded the faulty one for a bigger one - sweet! Now I am flooming my control as well as recirculating. I teed off the pumps outlet and ran one side to my grow bucket and routed the other side back into the res with a elbow on the end to point the flow at the surface. I also tried to wrap my hoses with neoprene, haha zip ties and painters tape! I ordered a cool works Ice Probe if anyone has heard of it. It's a thermo electric peltier cooler, designed for small aquariums. It only draws 50w and is supposedly for reservoirs up to 10g, so I should be good. Claims to lower water temp 5-15 degrees depending on insulation and size of tank. I've also read that they barely work only 1 degree drop in temp. So we shall see. Here are some pics:
Anyone have any guess as to my yield? I'd be happy with a few ounces of primo nugs and some trim and fluff to make oil with.
As a side note, hooked up my ice probe and fuck ya im back on the one ice bottle team. I was using 2 or 3 every 8 hours or so, but last night around 10 I tossed just one in, temps dropped to 68f and when I woke this morning at 9 the water was 70.2f. EPIC.
I could see this device being able to cool a single uncirculated and insulated bucket, like my setup earlier. However it has significantly slowed the warming of the water so very worth it to me. Ill post a link of how to make the external PVC cooling system so the probe doesn't need to be bulkheaded.
Oh fak ya I think that my ice probe has stable water temps at 70.3F. I'm super stoked. Now I will just use a iceomb when I do my top offs to keeps res temps from going up from the room temp water. Keep an eye out for a DIY thread coming soon I gotta share how epic this thing works and who should use it!
