Lighting Blackstar LEDs Question

Muddy and piercedc--I am going to email Gotham. I just don't understand that 2012 upgrades. I had the same unit pictured on site and all over ebay--240w with bored out fan grill. Now, my replacement is different. It has chrome/steel grills in front of the fans. The cut-out are just circles and the fan blades look smaller. I wonder more and more about the manufacturing. I saw the unit I received from someone here that purchased one from another supplier in the UK. Something I am going to get to the bottom of.

I just got a new one from them last week and did notice the differences, but haven't had a chance to take a closer look at it yet. Been down the last few days after dental surgery. I'm hoping to feel up to getting it installed tomorrow and will check it out then. I'll be curious to hear what they have to say.

Well, thanks for the response Muddy. Could be the upgrade made cost consciously. If so, they need to change all their illustrations to reflect what it actually looks like. Seems to work my seeds broke soil--the end pots--center pot seed still deciding what to do which surprises me (though I do see a little mound forming like an ant hill = making its way up).

Dental surgery will slow one up. Been there.

Email sent to Gotham. This afternoon.

Take it easy.

I have a blackstar question, is the 180w chrome superior to the 240w non-chrome?

there to new... the price sure is not equal...

To early to tell. We're only seeing some first grows with the new Chromes now.

I have a blackstar question, is the 180w chrome superior to the 240w non-chrome?

I have the new chrome 270 and the 240blk*....the 270 is more quiet than the blk*... light spread seems more circular than the blk*'s rectangle....seems more intense or maybe better penetration than the blk*....I see the chrome being more of a clearer pink color than the blk8 is more pinkish/purple/red..my last grow was mainly phots and a couple autos. did notice some 2 plants praying more under the blk* than the Chrome..prayed under the chrome but just a bit more under the blk*...havent had any bleaching under both(being 6 or so inches from tops)..had one plant show heat stress under the chrome but I do have extreme temps here and the couple plants that showed that was the same type and pheno that grew too tall to the light..but no stretching..the chrome does work I like it still need to do some more tests with itI have some clones under them now and both grows seem to be the same..I dont think the chrome has UV if Im right..Like the blk* for its size and how you can place them ..like the chromes for their light spread low noise n heat...I would like to get another but not sure which one now..

Muddy and all. Email response per 240W 2012 upgrade.

Hi, yes, that is exactly the case - the unit you received is still the 2012 model but re-designed just a tad. The fan covers have been changed - as you noticed they now come with steel grills, which provides for better ventilation and higher CFM. Our programmer just haven't got around to updating the pics in the listings yet :) Enjoy.

I am using both kinds at the moment. A chrome 8 and a 240 blackstar older model. They both work. The blackstar 8 is prolly equivalent to at least 2-240s. Light is much clearer/pinker than the 240. Wish i had more head room in my tent.
