Indoor Black Gold Seeding Mix Question

I have a couple of White Widow auto seeds going in BG seedling mix and they are doing terrible. I've had this issue before having only gotten 6 out of ten seeds to actual plants. I couldn't figure out why they were doing so poorly; yellowing leaves and eventual death.
I mixed up some with some water that was pH'd to 6.0, let it sit for a few minutes and checked it. The pH was 8.0.
Has anyone else had this issue and if so, what do you use now? Thanks much.

If I check my PH I let the meter in water for at least 20min..

Why not using rainwater? That is Almost 6.2
